Grand Canyon Trip

We are going to the Grand Canyon next week and would appreciate all information and suggestions on RV Camp sites in the area. It may be wishful thinking to think I can get a close site at the last minute but I thought it was worth a try. We may end up just getting a parking spot as close as possible and driving to the Canyon for the day. However, it would be nice to be able to spend more time there.

We went to the Grand Canyon just after Christmas this year but we weren't in a bus. We came in from Williams and come to think of it, I didn't even see any campgrounds up towards the canyon. I know there are some just out of Williams. And there are others over on other rim.

I heard they wanted $75 to walk out on that thing. I don't think they have to worry about me being on it for that price!

 For something different, go around thru Jacob Lake to the north rim in Utah, much to see, less people, and many places to camp.>>>Dan

I also heard you could not take your own camera out on the walk either...so you'll have to buy their overpriced pics. WTF?

We stayed in Trailer Village which has full hook ups.  Is mostly side by side parking, but with a little more room from each unit.  It is an easy walk into town, or take the shuttle bus that stops at the entrance to the RV park.  If you're going during the week, probably can get a spot.  Good Luck, TomC

To get all the info on Grand Canyon, south rim, got to www.nps.gov/grca.  Under trip planner click on The Grand Canyon Guide.  The Guide has all the info you will need.  About Shuttle Buses, camping, motels, sunsets, you name it.  Take in some of the Ranger talks.  They are, as a rule, very interesting.  Go early in the morning to the mule corral and listen to the head mule skinner talk to the people who will be going down in the Canyon that day.  It is also an interesting half hour of info.  Sunset at Hopi point or Yaki point is a must see.  Sunrise ditto.  We drove Shuttle buses at the Canyon for seven seasons.  We have been away from there for several years, so a few things have changed, although most remains the same.  There are hiking trails on the rim, both in The Village and on the West Rim.  Have a great trip.

Luvrbus what part of IF ALL ELSE FAILS YOU MIGHT TRY MAK Is not clear? 100 miles is what 1 1/2-2 hrs? Besides is that such a large distance that it couldn't still be done? One other noteworthy item how much $ is the things we all take for granted we learn and receive from this free board worth? Is it possible that once in a while we could do something little to maybe help Mike make a little $ to offset the costs of this free site ? After all Mike is in business to provide a living for his family, same as I am, or any other business person anywhere in the world! Last of all I was just trying to help by making a suggestion, and don't appreciate getting flamed for it!   BK
