Turbo On an 8V92 TA

Okay, Tom, finally got you on one!  You are supposed to have some play when you wiggle the turbine shaft, just not too much.  Judging how much free play is acceptable is a matter of practice.

yep the turbo has to have play for the oil to do it's job

I am curious as to why you think you need a turbo.  What is your engine doing that makes you think your turbo is bad. 

--GeoffHere is what has got me thinking turbo.1 -sluggish take off ,2- sluggish on mountain climbs ,3 - A light trail of oil directly behind and in line with the turbo.Those are my three main reasons.

Find the oil leak if it is leaking at the center block you may need a rebuilt turbo,change the boost sensor and the hose that maybe be the problem of the no get up and go

Yes like any rotating shaft in a bearing, some free play is necessary. But, as Geoff said, the amount is something that is learned. If questionable, maybe a mechanic friend could give you another opinion. Good Luck, TomC

Yes, low power can be from a bad boost sensor or even a good boost sensor that is set for eliminating any smoke at take off.  Pete Pappas put a resistor on​ his DDEC boost sensor so he was able​ to get more fuel and more power accelerating.

Yes, low power can be from a bad boost sensor or even a good boost sensor that is set for eliminating any smoke at take off.  Pete Pappas put a resistor on​ his DDEC boost sensor so he was able​ to get more fuel and more power accelerating.

I am going to get this thing to my repair facility before I do any thing .Not a major thing right now .I was at a shop the other day and they were changing the turbo out on a fire truck ,so I asked him what the indications were of a bad turbo and he mentioned several things including the ones I stated,I know this thing is sluggish on take off and has a time or two not responded to the throttle at all .When it did this,I patted the accelerator a couple of times ,and it took off with black smoke coming from the tail pipe .

Yours should be the GM 12219935 sensor you see them on Ebay for 60 bucks WW Willams charges me $130.00 for one

Well, the old EPA didn't care about your engine performance, so as far as they were concerned, being the slowest dog out of the gate was fine with their over restricted smog standards as long as you didn't cause some unheard of bug in some desert to get a skin rash.  In other words, you do not want a stock boost sensor if you want performance.

You may not need a sensor or a turbo it could be just the by/pass valve on the blower has become  gummed,full of oil and coked up ? have you ever clean and serviced it there is only 1 bolt and a 1/4 inch line to remove and check it. The 2 stroke is a little different the blower is the primary supplier of air to the engine on take off till the turbo spools up and the turbo spools with heat and fuel   

PS the valve does go bad too
