Here in the valley it is easy to spot a person that has moved from California to here,1st thing is they are they walking around with a new pistol and holster on their hip. AI I could care less about it.All the technology we have today and we still have the most expensive and worst health care in the world, how about AI working to solve that problem

Dan,it is a dig at the EPA all the newer trucks with 4 stoke engines if you look on the cab have a decal that states "certified clean idle " the 2 stroke owners use that decal all  in fun since their engines will not pass the test. The way I read in some states like CA,AZ and Nev out here you can only idle for 2 minutes without the dumb decal of face hefty fines, I am sure since it is the EPA bs it is in every state

Thanks for the explanation. I jumped on ebay this morning and seen they're 4 sale for any state. I wouldn't own one. Don't need anymore attention than it already gets. I was green (engine color only) on that one! Lol

Not at all Dan, a reasonable request. I really don't know but after all the adult beverages I consumed at LVMCI's birthday bash I am convinced it was an intoxicated attempt to be deragatory and distorting lol!
So much for being the master of brevity as I was once labeled years ago ;D
I do vaguely remember Cheryl (bless her heart) smacking me saying 'step away from the keyboard" lol! So I hope this explains it lol!  Gotta go wifey is coming back now!

Cummins Newsroom: People and Places
CUMMINS ANNOUNCES INVESTMENTS OF MORE THAN $1 BILLION ACROSS U.S. MANUFACTURING NETWORK
Apr 03, 2023 Columbus, Ind.
Cummins Inc. (NYSE: CMI) in Fridley, Minnesota
"...I am delighted that we will have the chance to show President Biden the innovative work we are doing at our Fridley plant and our incredible Cummins employees who are doing it," said Jennifer Rumsey, Cummins President and CEO. "In just a few weeks, we will begin manufacturing one of the key pieces of technology for green hydrogen production that will help decarbonize our economy and drive the clean energy transition – the electrolyzer. Support from the Biden Administration and Congress with legislation like the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act are driving the clean energy economy forward in the United States and critical to our decarbonization efforts."

Coinciding with the visit, Cummins has announced that in addition to recent investments in Fridley, the company is investing more than $1 billion across its U.S. engine manufacturing network in Indiana, North Carolina and New York. The investment will provide upgrades to those facilities to support the industry's first fuel agnostic engine platforms that will run on low carbon fuels, including natural gas, diesel and eventually hydrogen, helping decarbonize the nation's truck fleets today.

"The historic investments included in those pieces of legislation played a key role in our decision to manufacture products here in the U.S., creating more clean-tech jobs and positively impacting our communities," Rumsey continued. "The electrolyzer production in Minnesota and investment in our Indiana, North Carolina and New York facilities are reflective of our dual path approach of advancing both engine-based and zero-emission solutions – an approach that is best for all of our stakeholders and our impact on the planet. We can't do this alone and are grateful for the continued partnership and collaboration with congressional leaders and the Biden Administration." ...

US News and World Report

While the world waits for the Tesla Semi truck to become widely available, Nikola says it's winning the delivery race. "The Tre BEV 6×2 packs up to 733 kWh of energy into a compact 186-inch wheelbase, providing up to 330 miles of range without sacrificing maneuverability in even the most difficult of spaces — all at lower operating costs than conventional diesel," the company said.

Electrifying the heavy truck segment is notoriously difficult, because long-distance semis traditionally cover huge mileage on each run – and range is the Achilles Heel of the EV. That problem is slowly disappearing as battery technology gets better, but diesel trucks typically can cover 2,000 miles between refills. And that's why Nikola has also developed a 536-horsepower fuel-cell truck running on hydrogen – with a 500-mile range...
Nikola...now under a new CEO, Michael Lohscheller, and has delivered 258 of its battery-powered semi-trucks. Tesla, by contrast, delivered 36 of its 500-mile Semis to PepsiCo – which in 2017 placed a 100-vehicle order—in February. The soda company is hoping to get the rest of them this year.

Nikola isn't going it alone. The 13-foot-tall short-haul/regional BEV Semi is based on an Iveco cab-over chassis. To this, Nikola adds a huge 733-kilowatt-hour battery pack, which it parks between the frame rails. The twin motors offer 645 horsepower and 1,327 pound-feet of torque. Charging is still going to take a while – on 350-kW DC, it can reach 80% full in an hour and a half. The company's website says the truck can be refueled in 20 minutes or less, but a footnote says, "Estimate based on expected technology improvements." The company announced a fleet partnership with leading player ChargePoint in late 2022.

The U.S. versions of the BEV are for day use, but models that including sleeping quarters are planned for Europe. There is a big 17-inch touch screen angled toward the driver, and steering wheel controls via the Stellantis LX platform. Visibility is said to be very good, and operation is exceptionally quiet.
Production of the BEV Semi began in March, but the longer-range hydrogen truck will take a little longer. Spokeswoman Colleen Robar told U.S. News that the company plans to build 10 of the fuel-cell trucks by the second quarter of this year, and announce "at least two refueling station partners by June." Lack of infrastructure outside southern California is a big problem for fuel-cell power, and Nikola is hoping to have 60 hydrogen stations in place by 2026.

Nikola has also applied for a Department of Energy loan of up to $1.3 billion for a hydrogen production facility in Phoenix that could produce as much as 150 metric tons of hydrogen daily.

Robar said Nikola plans to deliver up to 350 Tre BEVs to dealers in calendar 2023, and 125 to 150 Tre fuel-cell trucks in the fourth quarter of this year. She said that Tre BEV pricing "varies for each customer," and that there are financial incentives available in California and New York.
Tesla and Nikola are far from the only players in this space. Also delivering electric semis are Freightliner (the eCascadia, 250 miles of range); Volvo (VNR Electric, 275 miles); Kenworth (T680E, 150 miles); Peterbilt (579EV, 150 miles); and Chinese company BYD (8TT, 167 miles). Daimler Truck North America said it delivered the first of the Freightliner eCascadias to Penske Truck Leasing late last year...

EV trucks have a long way to go,you can see it if they could go 500 miles or the daily limit on drivers time and charge overnight.a driver is not going to wait 40 to 60 hours for full charge to run 300 miles he cannot afford the down time. Shipping in a EV truck would be like pony express

They could place the battery trailers every so often then when getting low they just pull in and exchange the full battery trailer they now have and off they go again.

The unanswered question here gents is how does the transportation of goods via semis change when driverless trucks become everyday? It seems the entire rules change.
There are no driver clocks, so many hours per day; robot trucks can go 24/7.The cost to stop to recharge or swap battery pack will be minimal due to automation, no unproductive driver wages fueling up.
Higher utilization of the trucks will allow greater efficiency and profits.

Certainly, there will be capital costs to transition over to EV trucks and recharging stations but it is coming, the bean counters and the progressive politics will determine the path and pace of the switchover.

I'm not sure what you are communicating. Surely, it is factual that all the autonomous tech rolling out will be phased in and just like Tesla FSD beta it requires driver attention today. At the pace of technical advancement, these kinds of extra safety precautions will fade away.
For those not staying on top of the fast moving auto drive scene, it is a reality today. Waymo offers driverless rides in Phoenix https://waymo.com/phx/. This is just one example where the tech is in daily service. It's just time and not that long, before tractor trailers will self drive too.

Neat but where is the Phoenix traffic ?,they are going to need to get the weight down on the EV trucks as of now they are 8 to 10,000 lbs heavier than a conventional  equipped truck, truckers are not going to like giving up 4 to 5 tons of paying freight to go green
