The price of fuel is not a problem you can make it work, where does FOOD come in our Government calculations on inflation ? no way people on S/S can keep up with the price of food now and pay their property taxes, insurance ,car maintaince and insurance.I feel for people trying to live on just S/S

There are as many ways to calculate inflation as there are people doing the calculating.

Usually the people at the helm choose a basket of goods which will produce the results they are looking for, so if the decision is whether or not to grant a COLA (cost of living adjustment) often they'll include/exclude items to provide the results they want depending on if they are pro or con the increase.

Long-term inflation calculations generally include a much wider variety of goods in their calculations and are not as restricted as the COLA baskets. These long-term calculations are reward projecting and trying to see how much buying power a dollar actually had at any given point in history.

I read all the charts and rates and have no idea where they get their information when a $.50 loaf of bread back in the 90's  cost you over $3.00 now and hamburger cost $6.00 a lb.I hate going to a grocery store you get nothing for a $100.00.It's sad to see seniors with a basket full of Ramen noodles because a spouse has passed away and S/S only gives them their S/S or the dead spouses S/S but they cannot draw both. Then you see young people with shorts hanging down showing their @$# buying $20.00 a lb steak with a government issued card.Rant is over I am starting to get pissed over the whole deal

A couple of weeks ago I bought 85% ground beef from Aldi for $3.50 a pound (not a sale price) for my trip with my friends.  One of my friends said ground beef was too expensive and not to buy it, but I bought it anyway.  We spent about $60 per person for groceries for eight days which is a bargain for how well we ate.  That $60 included some large shrimp and other stuff that wasn't inexpensive.

A lot of the groceries I normally buy have jumped pretty good.

every one I buy " stuff " from uses covid as an excuse . whether to jack up the price or use it because you will wait months to get what you ordered or only 1/2 your order cames in

everything is stupid today, even the local tim hortons coffee shop as they had to close the doors and only let you go through the drive through as every store or business has a help wanted sign as no one wants to work because of the covid money they are getting from the gov.

there must have been a sale on help wanted signs as they are every where

price on everything has gone up

this sucks

Most here all agree that prices are going up but Jerome says no and keeps interest at near zero and buys as many bonds the Treasury can print. And the stock market drinks his Kool-aid as everyone still piles on on the dips. And Joe is banging the drum to print another 3 trillion in phony money. When this one crashes, let's just hope the fatalities don't break the calculator.

Widow or widower, full retirement age or older—100 percent of your benefit amount. Widow or widower, age 60 to full retirement age—71½ to 99 percent of your basic amount. Disabled widow or widower, age 50 through 59—71½ percent. Widow or widower, any age, caring for a child under age 16—75 percent.
And the price of Ramin is 2.47 for a case and it goes far with tuna or ground beef in it too...

It sucks Dave when a woman worked as hard as the spouse and if one dies I think they should get both of the S/S benefits not just the one or the other. We have a friend that lost his wife he draws on her S/S because it was more than his, cutting  income in 1/2 does create a hardship on some people, the DC idiots have it figured out you pay for 50 years and they bank on paying you for 10 years

Well in talking to SS they say that they if both are retired and over 60, you add the two together and it is split down the middle. D makes 600.00 a month more than me because I was mostly self employed and she got it higher because on being disabled

I think you will find out different god forbid if you need to,our friend dodged S/S for years he was only drawing $288.00 a month she was drawing around $1600.00 and that is what he draws now.I stiil think the living spouse is entitled to both myself without question. The way rules changes on S/S yours may be different than ours but ours is one or the other no splitting. At one time till the 70's the living spouse did get both that changed along with Ronnie taxing S/S
