Samantha's 4106 I'm guessing broke or cracked a liner outside windslow headed to Phoenix.   This is the motor that got really hot a couple weeks ago.  She needs to get it to hold together a little bit longer.  Anyone in the area that can throw a kit in it on the cheap?  I might have the parts depending on what size the liner it needs.  She needs about another thousand miles out of it.  Worse case I'll fly down and throw one in over the weekend.  We did one like that last year and it got back home over 1000 miles on the used parts.   She just bought a 2002 prevost but won't get it for a few more weeks so any money thrown into this a waste so she's  looking for low price temporary fix.   The engine is junk but just needs another band aide.

symptoms.. Running rough, smoking like a fog machine and spewing oil from the air box drain.

Well if my son and I fly out for the weekend we could do it.  Bout $800 in labor most parts I will give her she'll just need some gasket sets and about a grand for our air fair.  So she's looking around 2k.  Good deal if it holds together but could be a waste of money... It's a gamble

I've got a guy that's going to get a look inside the inspection covers for me to hopefully see what all happened.   Hopefully it's just a liner. That broke.   I dont think a head will fit in my suitcase.   You got a used head if needed sitting around??

No coolant in the oil is a good sign.   But it looks and sounds bad, well actually just slightly worse that it was sounding before. But the oil consumption is about a gallon per mile.   They got to a casino and are getting a tow the 160 miles to Phoenix.

Here is a video they sent me.

This is one of those bail out before the ship sinks situations I think. By the time she patches, tows it, patches tows it, etc plus possibly missing shows and income, she might just buy a cheap Rv for $3000 and drive it for a few weeks, then when she gets the Prevost she can sell the RV and probably get most of her money back...

I looked at her show schedule her next show is March 24 in San Diego 300 miles from Phoenix, why not just have her new bus delivered to Phoenix she has month then she could save money by giving the 4106 to someone and let them worry with it

I have mentioned all of those ideas to her.  Believe me last thing I want to do is try to band aid fix this with no idea of what I might find or what will happen next fifty miles down the road.  She said she wouldn't be able to rent an rv with 15 cats in it.  Well if it were me I'm not sure I'd mention the cats, so give her props for being honest about that.  It's got some hard driving ahead of it too as the landscape isn't exactly flat on that trip.  The new bus is getting the buildout but I would tell her to skip the build out changes and deal with that in the off season or later.  Any money now is just throwing it away.  Even though I'm cheap I can't make any promise that thing had not used up all of its 9 lives already.  Having drivers that don't know 2 strokes drive that like it's a sports car bus and expecting that some kind of dash light will alert them if a problem.  She is not mechanical and she thought a new 24k engine would have solved her problems and didn't understand that they killed the last engine and this engine has been killed by the same type of driving and not understanding the complexitys or running a 2 stroke within its operating range.   This was a new engine from MCI which I don't understand why she got a lefty from them but she did. However I certainly couldn't fault them for the build because it was just run too hard outside of its parameters.    There are only a few things you can do to 8v71 to kill them and this one has all of them done it it.  Lugging, overheating, low fluids... Dusting is about the only one not on its check list.

A friend is going to pull the inspection covers this weekend for me.  He's not a mechanic but he's seen some of my videos on what to took for and hopefully will get some video and images from inside the covers for me to help see what's happened and what course of action we will be taking.

Clifford are they just good take off heads or remanufactured?  Price wise I think good take off would be perfect for this bus.  Especially for the budget.  What kind of price are we looking at if she needs one or two?

I did discuss all the other options as far as not working on the bus but she really wants to use it if at all possible.   I can fly out next weekend.  My son may join me.  If he can't I will need one other person to help.  I've done it my self but it's much easier with a second set of hands.  I hate the unknowns and tight time frame I'd be on but it is what it is.   I'm confident in my abilities and if I have all the parts it should be ok.  But if there is some major internal damage other than just liner and kit it's not going to happen on a two day trip.  Swapping in used parts would never be my ideal solution but new parts into that motor is an even bigger waste of money.  I have new old stock liners that I think are #2 #4.  I also have some decent used ones with good cross hatching but it don't know the size.  I also have a few decent Take out Pistons on rods that should get new rings.  Probably stuff that would last a lifetime in most engines.  She wants to be able to sell the bus in running condition for what ever that's worth.

She wants to see what the inspection covers reveal before making any decisions.
