Hop on eBay and find some comparable engines for sale.  Then watch to see if they are actually selling, or just being relisted over and over again.

Ebay can give you a pretty good range of prices.  Bought a whole truck with a 6V92, 10 speed road ranger trans, AC and Air suspension with 25k on the new rebuilt engine for $5,000 locally.

What are guys calling a rebuild, you just toss aftermarket liners, bearings and paint at one 3 to 5 k, a total reman engine are 15k up. A engine from a MCI is worthless for other buses with out doing major work he needs to find himself a MCI owner in need of a engine

Exactly,
I bought my truck from the mechanic who built the truck including the motor.  He used it for several years then got a bigger outfit.  So I have a known unit that will meet my needs for the project I am building.  E bay stuff will give you an idea of what is available to compare and as stated it may be fresh paint on an old nag or you may get a full monte at full monte price.  But a MCI motor still has value if only by weight at the scrap yard.  $170 a ton?

luvrbus

200 bucks is not much if you value a 6v92 at a 170 bucks a ton for  scrap prices

Tell him to leave it on the mounting frame, it's tempting to cut it off because you have to take the water pump off to remove it whole.  But if he sells it to an MCI owner all of a sudden it's plug and play.
