All of the washer / dryer threads are 5+ years old so im asking..
I need a 24" washer / dryer preferably combo , preferably vented, unit for inside the bus, what is the most reliable option?
Thanks!
You don't want the combo unless you have plenty of time for drying the drying with moisture sucks,we went with the Maytag stack able front loader washer and dryer it's small I think it is a c7500 model I haven't installed it yet, it is what she wanted after years with a combo unit
If you have room go with stackable. We full time so it was important to my wife we had units that would equal house units. We went with Bosch and love them.

That is the, set we bought ours Phoenix for a lot less than HD so do some shopping only draw back to Bosch we have in the house is no service on the set they are nice when ours works
I could only find a few reviews on the Bosch and people had issues with it being a ventless dryer.
Had a friend steer me in this direction, 24" and vented dryer, anyone use one of these? > http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/GE4800FL.html?facet1=White&facet2=Electric (http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/GE4800FL.html?facet1=White&facet2=Electric)
Looks like it is a better deal with HD for the Maytags
The Maytag got good reviews and is a vented dryer which is good! I think! If a vented dryer is used in a bus it is taking makeup air from somewhere. I wonder if you could duct outside air to it ;D so as to not suck up all the airconditioning / heating
Buy appliance, disassemble appliance, study appliance , modify appliance , reassemble appliance with locktite. There must be a medication for that...
You sure you want to use valuable space in only a 35 footer? You could just stop at a laundromat when needed.
we looked for a all in one but after reading all the bad reviews we ended up going with apartment size washer and 120 volt dryer
I installed side by side in the middle bay on the passenger side ( used a shoe horn to get them in )

The best is if you have room for a stackable. I didn't want to sacrifice that much room. I have a Splendide combo with ventless drying. Disadvantage-it takes at least an hour to dry, uses more water (it uses cold water to wash the condensation off the warm drum) and the clothes never really dry-which means hanging them up for another hour.
In my truck I'm still going with the Splendide all in one, but with vent. It is the only combo I know of that has vented drying. Good Luck, TomC
Fascinating... > http://www.alkeng.com/AL/dryer (http://www.alkeng.com/AL/dryer)
Don't do combo. Just don't. I haven't met a soul who likes it. We have whirlpool stacking 24" 110v set
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We went with the Spendide vented and I installed it in one of the bays, just open the bay door and it is right there. Vents through the bay floor located right next to my fresh water tank and hot water heater, drains to the black/gray tank. No noise to listen to when running. Didn't want to take us interior space since we have a side isle with a full size bathroom.
My model was replaced with 500 series model 2840.Looks like the same as mine,220 volt.
If you pull an enclosed Trailer Or gonna get one that is long enough to put them in the front. Less chance of the washer spin cycle shaking and breaking the bus and less
Moisture in the bus as well
We have the combo in ours which in my opinion is nothing but a waste of room. Not only is it slow ,but the small capacity is ridiculous !If I remember correctly ,they are rated for five pounds. If you spend any time in a camp ground, about all of them have some form of a laundromat. That is what we usually use.I like the way that laundry pair fit in your bay.It is like it was made for it.
For those who don't like the combo - question. Are you using vented or non-vented.
I hear lots of complaints from the non-vented folks.... but most folks seem to like the vented Splendide combo
I have a Bendix non vented and Splendide vented setting in the shop I can't tell the difference the little 2 in vent on the Splendide couldn't vent much with piping if you put a 90 in place to go through the floor to the ground
We have a vented splendide that I put a inline fan on the vent tube which goes down to vent under coach, improved the dry time but they are for small loads only, wife likes, I don't, but for a couple they will do
Todd -
I tend to agree with Chessie. For the cost and aggravation of trying to stuff a W/D into a 35' coach, you can do an awful lot of clothes at the laundromat, plus normally in/out in 60-90 minutes for all of it.
I dont' have a w/d in my 5C, no plans to remodel to accommodate, either.
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
Trust me men don't care where they wash clothes at, but most women hate a laundromat mine will tell you in a hurry she travels in RV because of fifthly motels and hotels and she is not going to wash clothes in machines no telling what it has been used to wash.
Lol I had to deal with it for over 40 years and the last time I checked it has not changed with her so she gets a washer and dryer." A happy wife a good life"

. I agree with what he said.. 40 years tomorrow..lol
For me full timing without a washer and dryer would be a pain. Fire and Clean clothes = civilization
Wash em in a creek and hang em up is what we do
Scott-do any of these souls with combos have the air dry unit from Splendide? If they all have ventless, I agree. Good Luck, TomC
We checked into a new 2100 Splendide vented the book said 1 to 2 hrs for drying time it has a high and low heat selector for what I don't know I couldn't find a heating element no where in the parts book.
Only difference I could find was the non vented model used 3 gals of water per hour for drying and the vented model used none only room temperature air no heated air from the dryer its self drying time was the same on both.
A lot of the new house type use that same system drying with the room air, ours does and it sucks
I know my ventless Splendide gets quite warm during the drying cycle. And since both the ventless and vented model require 1300 watts (the motor certainly doesn't draw that kind of amps) and the fact that the exploded parts drawing called out the heater and heater control, plus a switch for less heat during drying, I'm quite confident there is a heater for drying in both the ventless and vented models. Good Luck, TomC
In Germany they use a spinner. They spin at 2500 rpm and wring about an extra half gallon plus out of a load. Don't think I've seen any over here. They are about the size of a small oil barrel. They add 10 minutes of work but yet they dry in a lot less time and would also reduce the moisture for the unvented driers
All the little combos like Haier,Galaxy,LG,Magic Chef,Splindide,Norcold and so on all use the self condensing to dry with there are no air heating elements in those units only with a dryer fan with 4 little glow plugs looking things to help dry the air leaving the unit. The fan blows air into a gathering box behind the front door
All I know is my Splendide ventless gets quite warm during drying. If that is accomplished with glow plugs, so be it.
Maybe your Tstat is bad they are not supposed to go over 77 degrees .i am not blowing smoke at you I have one from the RV scattered in the shop now it washes and drains but won't spin
if I find the control module is bad I am going to toss it the boards from the outfit in OR are ridiculous in price with the built in surge protector $466.00 for a board in a $1000.00 washer combo is stupid IMO

We have a combo (Splendide). My wife loves it. Do small loads. It vents into a screened box in the utility bay. We have lots of time. If you have kids, probably a bad idea. Way cheaper than laundromat.
So is the Splendide (vented?) a reliable option for a combo?
The are good little washers but the drying time sucks,I have specs on the new 2100XC it says they dry 35% faster than the old models and it still take 90 to 120 minutes to dry. I am going to replace the 2000 with the 2100XC anyways
I don't want to remodel the space in the Trek or pay $499.00 for the control board for the 2000 for 500 bucks more I bought a new Splendede with free shipping.I have stackables for the bus to install lol women !!!!
I am on my third Splendide and my current model is the 2100XC. I too dislike laundromats because I am impatient and you never know who put what in their washing machine before you get there. The space it takes up in my bus is worth it to me. I work from my bus, so I don't mind the longer cycle time as I can wash and work at the same time. I generally wash my clothes on a daily basis or at least 5 days per week because the equivalent of two large towels is about the limit. I also hang everything but pants and shirts in the bedroom to dry every morning to save electricity. They are always dry by the end of the day here in CA. I have found that if you dry each shirt and pair of pants separately, it keeps them more wrinkle free.
I have the vented model and like it much better than the non-vented model (I have had both). I also have the optional drain pan and luckily it has never leaked, but if it did, it would drain down through a hose to under my coach instead of all over the floor. The only problem I have had with the 2100XC is that the door has an engineering flaw where the latch is very thin plastic and I have broken the latch three times on this unit already in the course of about five years. And of course, you cannot replace just the latch, you have to replace the entire door at a cost of over $100 each time.
The non-vented version can take up to one additional hour to dry, thereby using much more electricity and water. The capacity is 15# which is a bit more than the older models. You also need to be aware of the vents tend to clog up every several months and cause it to overheat and not dry your clothes completely or shutdown the machine when it gets too hot. It takes a lot of work to remove the unit and clean the vents out. However if you run 1 cup of vinegar on #12 cycle (Wool) monthly, it will help break down the soap and keep the vents cleaner. There is a specific process to use monthly to clean the unit properly, which you can get if you call the company. It involves running the machine through three specific cycles which takes about four hours every month. This helps keep it clean inside.
Here are the steps I follow monthly to keep my Splendide vents clean. Your mileage may vary.
1. Do not put any clothes in the washer
2. Do not put any Laundry Detergent in the washer
3. Put 1 cup Vinegar in far left tray
4. Set the dial to cycle #11 (Silk)
5. Turn the machine ON
6. Set the WASH TEMP to Hot
7. Set the DRY TIME to OFF so it will not enter the Dry cycle
8. Set a timer to 4.5 Minutes
9. Push the Start button
10. When the water stops entering the unit push and hold the Start button until all lights comes on, then release the button.
11. If the water is at least half way up the glass, go to Step 27
12. If the water is not at least half way up the glass, read on...
13. In my case it only came up to the bottom of the circular glass on the inside of the door.
14. Rotate the Cycle dial one full turn to cycle #11 (Silk)
15. Set a timer to 3.0 Minutes
16. Hit the Start button.
17. When the water stop entering the unit push and hold the Start button until all lights comes on, then release the button.
18. This time the water came up almost to the bottom of the horizontal bevel in the glass.
19. If the water is at least half way up the glass, go to Step 27
20. If the water is still not at least half way up the glass, read on...
21. In my case it only came up to the bevel on the glass, which is less than half full still.
22. Rotate the Cycle dial one full turn to cycle #11 (Silk) (Again)
23. Set a timer to 3.0 Minutes
24. Hit the Start button.
25. When the water stops entering the unit push and hold the Start button until all lights comes on, then release the button.
26. By now, the water level should be at about 5/8 full which is over half-way as instructed.
27. Move the cycle dial to cycle #12 (Wool)
28. Press the Extra Rinse button
29. Press the Start button once (do not hold) and let it run through that complete cycle. Even more water will enter the machine bring it up to almost 5/8 full before the water started agitating.
30. This cycle will run for 59 minutes.
31. Run thru this entire cycle again until you have run it 3 times completely.
100. connect leaf blower to vent hose with duct tape...
Wow that is quite the process you have there!
I did not know about the drain pan option, sounds smart!
WOW !
before cold weather comes I open the small door on the front bottom right of the washer and open the drain hose to drain any water out and unscrew the 2" plug to see if there is any thing in the bottom drain ( nothing in 3 years )
thats it time it takes is 2 min.
as for the 120 volt dryer .... I do nothing
dave
I think the combos are alright as long as your recognize their limitations. They are not good for a family. They are not good for a house. But, for 2 people who don't want to wash in someone else's machine, they are OK.
We bought an Asko WCAM 1812 when we were full timing. I never did get it installed in the bus. At one point we spent about 6 months "camping" at my shop (we had the house rented). We used the Asko to wash our clothes and hung them on a line in the bus when the weather was bad, outside when it was good. It worked pretty good but we had to wash everyday to keep ahead of the laundry. It washes fine but if you had to dry the clothes in it, it takes a long time. That said, just running them through the spin cycle gets clothes way more dry that a regular machine. If you hang them up they dry very quickly.
FYI, the Asko is for sale if anyone is interested. $300. It's heavy as lead so no shipping unless you want to spend about $500!
TOM
Clifford,
Does your wife refuse to use a public restroom or the toilet in a used RV, or eat off of dishes that someone else has eaten off of, or the multitude of other exposures to used products and services like cafes or pot lucks? Seems like a pretty restricted life if she limits herself to only new. OR, does she just have an aversion to laundromats?
Sam
Just mostly laundromats, motels and public rest rooms she will check out the dirty glasses ,knifes, forks and plates in a restaurant. ::)
Fwiw I have witness people washing dirty baby diapers in machines without cleaning a diaper 1st I saw that in New Mexico most disgusting thing in world
In the restaurants in Phoenix we only use glassware no plastics and only stainless cookware knock on wood not 1 case of food poisoning in 15 years reported

Scott - we love our combo unit. We have had it to 30 months now. Other than having to replace a 30$ part its been fantastic.
Its an splendide 2000s model. Washes and then dries. Must be Vented! Don't get one that is not vented.
We love ours. With 6 kids we do a load a day. Start it in the morning and hand out the clothes in the afternoon. One load a day and no more having to swap clothes from the washer to dryer ...just turn it on and you are done. It takes about 2 hours from start to finish.
-Sean
Ok. So I met a soul who loves their combo. I concede. We love our stacking whirlpool set. No issues in 5 years of fulltiming and now that we have a 5 month old, we do a lot of laundry. It does take up twice the room as a combo of course, but stacking them takes up height vertical space versus the more valuable horizontal space (in my opinion) so it works for us. We have a 9" roof raise so that makes a difference. The shanks family has really fine tuned the art of 6 people and a cat living in a 40' bus full time so I respect their input on anything space/interior layout related.

I debated back and forth whether to go with a stack or Splendide vented combo. I am going with the Splendide vented combo because the stack takes space. With the combo, I still have a cabinet above the combo I can use. Besides, it's just the wife and I, and probably won't use the W/D but a couple times a week. Good Luck, TomC
I know this is a old thread but I have a question for you guys using the stacked W&D, Are you using 220 volt dryers? Propane? The problem I see are the small apt sized ones only come in 220 volt and not gas and not 110 volt, I don't have room for a normal house sized W&D, and most places we go 220 would be ok but not some of the older parks. Just wondering what you guys are using. Jason
Jason, we are using a the smallest front load washer and dryer set LG makes. The dryer is gas and I paid a pro appliance guy to convert the jet over to propane. It was an involved process I'm really glad I didn't attempt myself. The whole dryer came apart. Anyway, we love this set. Using a house sized gas stove/oven and the gas dryer we only go through a 20lb cylinder every 4 months or so. I love our washer too. Uses quite a small amount of electricity with its inverter technology. Super quiet set. Again, we are full timers so we've figured out what works and doesn't in terms of daily heavy usage versus just camping occasional usage. I wouldn't recommend this set in anything less than a 102" wide coach though. Scott, I wish I had room for them, The one I found that will fit is a whirlpool https://www.lowes.com/pd/Whirlpool-2-cu-ft-Stackable-Front-Load-Washer-White/50434752 (https://www.lowes.com/pd/Whirlpool-2-cu-ft-Stackable-Front-Load-Washer-White/50434752) but the matching dryer is 220 volt. I wish it came in gas or 110 volt. I quess the 220 isn't a deal breaker just have to be more picky were we hook to the poll lol.
Jason
After months of looking at compact washers and dryers it got down to the Miele for us,then after much research my wife decided to go with the Splendide 2000XC vented with heated drying for space saving lol she had other things in mind.
I got lucky because the Miele set was expensive about 3k+ for the set ??? and found a brand new never used Splindide 2000XC take out from a RV delivered with everything for 400 bucks ;D it seems to work good testing it and I can run it from the inverter
The splindide would be the way to go, but it doesn't sound like they dry very well :-\ I would think the vented ones would be best. If I could find a deal like that I would defiantly give one a try.
The newer Slindides have a heating element the old ones used moisture of all things to dry clothes with and sucked but Sonja has always like a Splindide she had one for the past 20 years I don't know which is best lol I don't do the laundry I screwed that up 40 years ago ::)
I am also in the market for a new W/D combo unit. The stack-able just takes up too much room for me and I like being able to put my dirty clothes in the Combo unit before I leave for work and remove them when I return home. I too had the Splendide 2000XC in my MCI but there was no W/D in the Eagle I just bought. It does have a dish washer though and perhaps I can use that to wash clothes. ;D
I did some measuring and the Splendide 2000XC will be a tight squeeze into the cabinet I want to put it in (if it will even fit) so I am looking for a smaller unit basically the height of the Splendide is a bit too tall. If anyone knows of a company that manufactures a slightly smaller unit, I would be glad to hear about it.
There are three drawbacks to the Splendide 200XC, one is that the door latch is poorly engineered and tends to break quite easily and you can't just order a new 25 cent latch, you have to order an entire door for about $150 which is absurd. I have bought three of them (so far). The second drawback is that the lint tends to clog up the lint output vent tube and it is about a two hour job to clean it out because the access to remove the rear exhaust hose is difficult to access. The third drawback is that they once came with a starting timer so you could have it start 3 hours before you arrived home so the clothes wouldn't wrinkle as bad, but the later models removed that great feature.
I really liked the Splendide Combo unit and still may be able to fit one in my new bus, but I need to take another measurement to be sure. But if slightly smaller unit is available, I would probably go for that and spend an average of 4 days per week doing a load of laundry rather than the 3 days I used to be able to do it in. It takes about 3 hours to do a load of laundry so you can't do very many loads in a day. That is with a vented unit, the unvented one takes a bit longer.
If you are traveling with more than two people, you may want to consider a stack-able unit as you can do laundry in half of the time.
I don't do the laundry either ;D but I want to keep her happy so I don't have to start ;D I have some time to think this through I'm not going to start this project for a while so maybe a good deal on one will come buy.
I am going with the stackable set myself. The dryer is 120v at 12 amps. Ariston made by splendide.

Thanks Derrick, That's exactly what I'm looking for :) I could find the washers just not a 120 volt dryer. Now to find a good deal on one. Thanks again Jason
Jason, we saw those in Phoenix at RV & Auto Parts for $775.00 a set 602-635-1566
That would be a good deal, I just did a quick qoogle search and lazydays had just the washer for that price plus $150.00 shipping.

Hve a Splendide non vented, Let me know if you find another one of those vented deals Clifford...
We found a great deal on a used ASKO washer and drier. They are on the high end when new, but found a great used set. It was recommended to us by Mark Renner.
They are 240V with the drier being the main source of power as the washer is plugged into it.
We set them in our closet, side by side. Only cold water is used as the washer has a heating element in it.
They work fantastic! They are very well built and hardly feel them run when spinning. The washer has 4 shocks on the tub which absorbs the movement.
Highly recommended from one who had a Splendide non vented.
We have the Splendide vented and I put it in one of the cargo bays. Had to remove the top tip it and got it in and put the top back on. Looks good in there, just throw the clothes in get it running and shut the cargo door no noise to listen to. Vents right out the bottom of the cargo floor, drains over to the waste tank. Had no room in the main area so it went in the cargo bay.
The good thing about a Splindede is you can always get parts and service and we took that into consideration the European stuff like the Bosch we have in the house takes for ever for parts and service and it's nothing for a repair bill to cost us $400.00.We looked at ASKO they were nice but way overpriced new but I could have gotten a deal the dealer was closing and I worried to much about parts and service
We have the Splendide non vented that I've had zero problems with. It washes well, shakes the bus on high spin, but is quiet otherwise. If you dry for an hour, the clothes will be still slightly damp, then just hang them up around the bus for another hour and your done.
Now with the truck, I'm buying a Splendide vented version. Good Luck, TomC
we put the same ge apartment size washer ( front load ) and 120 volt elect dryer in the featherlite each are just less then 24" wide and deep and 33.25 " high . I stacked the dryer on 3/4" ply shelf above the washer so either one can come out with out removing both . the dryer takes about 40 -60 min . to dry a load
I looked at the propane gas dryer but did not want to go to the bigger size ? could not find a 24" gas dryer
if you go back to the first page of this post you can see the same washer / dryer in the M C I basement . we installed the w/dryer upstairs in the featherlite
they do work very well .

Like Dave we couldn't find a 24 inch gas dryer either, that's a tough one. Whirlpool used to have a front loading washer and dryer that both ran on 110 V and the dryer was electric. We had that set in our former bus. But they no longer make them never had any problems with our old set but they sold with the bus

I had to replace the discharge pump on the ASKO washing machine. Called a place in Los Angeles, had it within 2 days. Cost was about $90.
We have had many brands over the years and this one tops the list.

You did your own service work too, since I am not into working on a friggn washer, dryer or refrigerator I call a service co.I am not saying the ASKO is a bad unit.
I have a friend here that has the ASKO commercial units in his 2 laundromats his complaint is parts, service and down time but that is commercial use.
The 2 dealers we spoke with said they great units till ASKO sold out in 2012 or 2013 and since 2014 they were problems for the dealers so they quit selling ASKO we come within a inch of buying a set FWIW.
Gary has the ASKO in his Parliment Prevost he had only minor problems with the washer like the heating element a couple of times
Our Country Coach came with a Splendide vented combo and we love it. So nice to not have to mess with campground laundromats. might be a little slow but we think it's great. I'm sure the stackables are better but we only put 15,000 miles on the rig per year. Not like full timing. The people we travel with usually bring their laundry over too. Works great.

I just picked up a stacked washer and dryer whirlpool hd large capacity brand new takeout units never been used for a steal @750 for the pair. Now to put them in. The washer is pretty heavy but the dryer is easy to toss around.
