Lonnie time to go

1975 GMC 4905
As I pulled out of the p/o driveway  large cloud of smoke I mean huge but quit after 1/2 mile.
When I back up a little blue smoke comes out.
Had to add water and oil before I left. Still low oil light turned on after 35 miles.
steering wheel loose, likes to move back and forth on the road.
Has several little air leaks, shifter area,  valve at back of bus to release brakes

I love my bus its mine and payed for. yeehaa

Now I have to figure out what everything is....???
Anyone have a detailed diagram of the parts to a motor, auto trans and other stuff in motor
area [with labels]
I can check the oil and water, find the fuel filters but the rest of the stuff is unknown.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Congrats on taking the plunge! The best money I spent was getting a shop manual for mine. Make a list of the things you think you need to address so you can refer back to it from time to time. As you get more into it things seem to change priority. Keep us posted.

OH yea !  A shop manual is a MUST. That should be the first thing you buy.

Welcome to the world of bussing....

Lonnie,

There are a lot of good knowledable bus nuts there in Michigan that could probably spend a few hours with
you and jump start your knowledge base on your bus :)   Safety being the first!
Sorry my memory isn't what is used to be or I would give you there call names.

Manuals..........some have gotten them on ebay or ordered the CD (photo copied so at least one generation degregation)
coachinfo.com is one place that comes to mind to get CD's. Where I got mine and it does really help.

At 2k hopefully you haven't spent all your warchest! There will be all the little things that are sure to pop up :)

Please remember this is supposed to be a fun hobby and if you like frustration you will have fun.

Lonnie,

I have CD manuals for a bunch of my vehicles.  I'll take paper any day.  CD are $19.95 for almost everything.  Dallas has the manual for your engine and i think he will share it with you if he still has it.

Good luck,

John

John, do you have any Prevost Champion manuals? I could use one of those, I ordered a DD manual from eBay that should keep me going... Thanks

When we showed up to p/u our bus we had already paid a LOT of money for it, sight unseen, wire transfer before we ever made the trip.  So there we are in his yard and he says "Oh, by the way, I've got all the DD & Prevost manuals, do you want them?"  Sez I "Sure" - thinking, WTH else is he going to do with them?  Sez he "well they cost me a lot of money so I'll have to charge you for them."  Now in hindsight my only regret about the whole purchase is that I didn't immediately respond "then shove them where the sun don't shine and let them rot there you cheap SOB!!" but instead I just got out my chequebook.  I'm still mad at myself for caving.
