A friend of mine 671 in a GM bus blew up and he wants to replace it with a ddec inline 671 any body know of 1 for sale in AZ, Nev or Ca with the electronics a complete engine with aftercooler, turbo and a by pass blower  thanks for any leads

First off the 6-71TA with DDEC is a very rare bird.  If he already has a mechanical 6-71, why on earth would he want to complicate his life by installing a DDEC engine?  The mechanical 6-71 (and any of the mechanical 71 series) are probably the most reliable engines EVER made.  Putting DDEC on may get a bit more fuel mileage, but that will all go away when (you noticed I said when not if) the DDEC quits and you have to be towed.  If he wants to turbo the engine, that can be done by rebuilding his engine up into a turbo engine, can install the bypass blower, and install an air to air intercooler in the transmission access door.  That will be good to increase his output from 218hp and 550lb/ft torque (60 injectors) to 300hp and 900lb/ft torque (80 injectors).  Course with any increase in power, a larger radiator, air cleaner and muffler will also have to be installed.  The transmission is good to 1200lb/ft torque.  Good Luck, TomC

Yep, Electronic engines are a RISK......outside of a catastrauphic engine failure you can make a mechanical engine go again with basic hand tools.

No, READ again...NO converter will ever put enough mileage on thiser bus to see any realized savings from the fraction of a MPG better an Electronic engine gets in economy.

to bad it did not go a ferw weeks ago when a New Crate 6-71 Turbo was on ebay...sold for 4k

Tom this is one of the very few rare times I have to disagree with you!

His mileage will sky rocket while being towed! LOL! ;D
Sorry couldn't resist! LOL!

Luvrbus,
If your friend is really determined to go thru all that hassle for a DDEC, Turbo & after cooler he should look into a series 50 swap! Probably much easier to find, and will be easier to locate replacement parts in the long run! FWIW!

BK- You're too much LOL!  You're suggestion to install a Series 50 is the best yet.  I remember a while back seeing a Series 50 installed in a 3715 (Silversides) with a V731 and reverser gear.  It was an unbelievable fit, but it did fit.  Could you imagine a 04 or type bus with that set up?  It would just about accelerate like a car and I bet get close to 15mpg. Trouble is, you can't get the revs down in a GM S50 engine swap.

No tranny or differential options to make the kind of change needed to get the really best consumption out of the beast.

But, it'll take lots of cars off the line...so...

With 4.11 gears running 11R-24.5 (478 revs per mile) and the V730 and .88 built in overdrive, at 60mph, the engine will turn 1728rpm, and at 55mph it will be at 1584rpm-right at the best cruise rpm (1400-1600) for fuel mileage.  Then if you want to go fast, you can.  75mph is at 2161rpm-a little fast-but with the longevity of the Series 50, I would feel confident at running that speed all day long for many days on end.  Still a superior engine for fuel mileage over the 6V-92TA.
