I talked to a fellow busnut yesterday who has an 8V71 with temperature guages in the engine compartment and dashboard. The one in the engine compartment evidently is the most accruate one usually running around 180-190. The one in the dash often runs 210 and above. Obviously if the engine truly ran that hot frequently he would be having engine issues by now. I didn't think to ask if one gauge is hooked to the left side and the other guage hooked to the right side.

Is this a common occurance? Do the electric guages loose accuracy?

Typically, the engine room gauge is mechanical, the dash is electric.

Dashboard gauges are notoriously inaccurate as the years go by...

Get an infra red temp gun and shoot the coolant pipes down through the hole in the floor while underway.

Daughter reports you will be quite surprised by the noise and wind, the first time you open it at highway speed....

happy coaching!
