I'm Ready to upgrade to the A-5 in motion, and remove my L-3 in motion, mostly because I have a smooth roofline with my custom A/C's down below.

So, I want nothing visable on the roof. All the reading I've done on the A-5 tells me, thats the way to go!

Anybody have first hand expierence with the A-5 ?

Thanks
Nick-

Hey Nick,

I have no real world experience with the KVH A-5, but the only downside (to me) of this very low profile unit, was having to use the KVH receiver, instead of your regular DTV or Dish receiver. I am unaware of any other issues that might make it less than a perfect addition to a clean roofline.

Hello Jay,

That might be a good thing, [using their reciever] because my 115v reciever from my house causes a problem, Seems everytime I switch from park power to Inverter the split second it takes to switch, the reciever goes into Search for satelite!

So the 12v model that comes with the A-5 may be the way to go, this way I know my 12v system is uninteruptable!!

Been on the phone with Kingdome and they tell me the downfall to the VERY low profile units (flat) is rain fade since the water sits on the flat surface!

ACE,

I'm doing some more reading, Also reading FAQs from customers.

Apparently, the A5 works in all weather including snow! But, thet suggest that heavy snow be cleared from the antenna for best picture.

The new state-of-the-art hybrid phased-array technology, claims to be superior to standard domes!

I somehow am attracted to the 5" high concept!

Reckon how long the A-5 would remain unstolen on the roof of the van as pictured in the KVF promo pix?
First evil doer that knew what it was would have it.  Or they'd have the complete roof rack with the satellite dish attached.
Still a nice looking alternative to the big domes.  Anyone have one?
