Passenger seat mounting question

I'm wondering how everyone mounted their front passenger (copilot) seat.

How do they mount to the floor? Should I weld a steel plate to bolt to before I lay down wood?  I'm thinking it would be good and strong that way plus an anchoring point for seat belts if the seat is not already equipped. Then again it would be a long reach to get to the plate by the time I lay down all the wood.

Hi Dave,

I used 4 - 3/4" butterfly mollys. Drilled through the plywood and the steel plate that was allready under the wood.

Popped the mollys through and bolted them securely, then dropped the seat base over them and used a second

set of nuts to secure the base.  Holds Great!

Good Luck

My way is to weld the mounting nuts to the bottom of the steel plate that is welded to the frame so as to not get any vibration loosening over the years.   There are going to be times I wish I had mounted it in the rear closet though.......lol.... Sorry Deb I couldn't resist...lol....  Just my way.....Steve

I mounted my passenger seat on top of the front wheel well (transit type bus) which used the existing seat mounts that were there.

After seeing that Grayhound bus accident, I'm installing 4 more seat belts in the dinette since I only have two seatbelts now in the bus for the driver and passenger.  Good Luck, TomC

I welded strips of the original seat railing back in where I wanted my seats. Then I mount then using T-bolts. Works great, and the seats are firmly attached to the bus frame, not screwed into wood.

Some very good ideas. I guess I need to know where I'm going to mount the seat before I can lay the foundation. That means that I probably ought to get a seat........
