fuel tank info

Hi All;
       I have a MC-7 with a auxillary tank.  I have a fuel leak, i have been
       ignoring for almost a year.  I don't think the tank is cracked,  but I
       do believe the hoses on the equalizing tube are leaking. My question
       is what suprises can I expect to find.  I know I will have to drain the
       tanks,  but how does the guard covering the tube come off?  Do any
       of you guys have any tips or secrets to share?  Approx what diameter
       fuel line do I look for?  The rubber fuel coupling lines are probably
       origional equipment.  I guess it can't last forever.

The hoses are a special steel braid fuel hose, not hydraulic hose. Nothing else will fit but the OEM type hose. I think the size is 1 3/16" so 1/8" steel braid hose will not go on and 1/4" will not clamp down tight. I was lucky and found a roll in a hose supply. The owner told me to go in the warehouse and try and find what I needed. When I found it, he said  it had been there when he bought the business and it wasn't in his computer. It may still be available from MCI Parts. Large hose suppliers may have it in stock for things like fuel tankers or service station pumps. IIRC the cover is clamped to the pipes with a bolt that goes between the pipes. The fittings on the main tank end are welded into a plate which bolts to the tank. You will have to make a gasket for the plate. Be prepared for a diesel fuel bath!!
