Barn Owl

The Thursday after Labor Day I took the family out for a short three day/two night trip.
We spent Friday at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. If you ever want to go when it is a ghost town that Friday after Labor Day is when you need to be there. Getting off the rides was optional. There where times when we were the only ones on them. I had never ridden in the front seat of the roller coasters before because I was not willing to spend the time to stand in the line to do so. I rode the front of them all several times. Sorry no pics.

I love the State Park campgrounds, clean and beautiful. We stayed one night at Chippokes Plantation State Park across from Jamestown. I highly recommend it. You can spend a week in eastern Virginia and never do it all. I feel very fortunate to live in a place where there is so much to do without spending all of my time traveling. If you are a history buff you will be in heaven.

To go from Chippokes Plantation State Park to Jamestown, Williamsburg etc. you have to cross the James River on the Jamestown-Scotland ferry. It was very cool, we loved it. Operates 24/7/365 and no charge.

Just one hour from Williamsburg is Virginia Beach, we visited Little island park and I liked the lack of commercialization there. There are several campgrounds close but we didn't stay because we had to hit the road.

Now my favorite part of the trip. The Oceana Air show is on my top ten list. Because of the bus we got better than VIP parking. They put us on the flight line. 3 min. walk instead of 40 min. Note the F18 tails in the background. The runway was directly behind the bus. If I had a ladder I could have set the lawn chairs up on the roof and got a first class view.

Really nice pictures. The trip looks like fun, and I am so glad you had all your kids  and wife with you to share. There are many places we would like to go with our coach that might require a ferry boat ride, what was it like getting on and off the ferry with the bus. Our bus is standard shift and NO power steering, do you think it would be manageable?

I have come up with a foldable, hiding roof deck system that could be installed on any bus roof, flat or curved, but my wife says "Nothing doing " on our coach. So at events we sit on the ground like you did.

Nice job, nice pics thanks for sharing.

Laryn,

Great photos of the trip and Family!

At one point in my life I lived in Yorktown, in retrospect I wish I had done more sightseeing than I did.

You have got me remotivated to post some pictures of are last trip.

Craig,

I can only speak for myself, But I totally agree with your statement.

I have been fortunate to have gone to some of the most remote and extreme places on this planet. (B4 family)

but , NONE were even near as fun as the time spent traveling with my Family.

Great Trip!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!! That keeps the rest of us inspired.   We will put that area on our list to explore.

We did the Virginia Creeper on the other side of the state,  great time, plan to do it again.  only saw one campground big enough for buses, but it was on the river and had a music hall on weekend nights.

Are y'all coming to the non-rally?
It's all fun and games til someone gets hurt. ;)

Barnowl,
Thanks for sharing your trip as you travel, with us. Learn to shrink your photo's so we can see more, you know me!!  Your right about our country having so much to see and stay safe in, no traveling outside of these borders, (Except Beautiful Canada) for me.

Maybe real soon we can arrange for a caravan of us all to make a week or so trip together and just land where we do and surprise everyone as we arrive.  Starting to do this caravan trip the day after labor day is a good suggestion as you found out and we will have no parking problems at all and of us can all set up camp together at the end of a traveling day or sightseeing day to just have one hell of a party all this time.

You got one great looking family there also.

Thanks again Barnowl, keep them photo's coming and shrink those photos down so you can post 4 at a time and they are less in value of 198KB. total for all 4 photos. Suggestion , Make folders with (4) photos in them, Shrink them slowly starting with (640 X 480) and then look at the KB value of them and keep shrinking them slowly to be sure these 4 photos are are less than 198KB total for all 4.  Then do another folder, (Label them of coarse) and so on until you have them all separated the way you want, all ready for submitting to MAK for us all to enjoy.  Try to keep the KB numbers values for the photos nearly all the same, (4 photos about 45KB) Each for safety in submitting.  This technology does not like fine wire walking and can really -iss you off when it rejects you.  This is only a suggestion for simplicity and let us see more of your great travels.

Thanks for the comments everyone, I need to get the pic thing down better because I could post more.

Dave, This ferry also hauls semi-trailers and tour busses with no problems. It's very easy to load/off-load. The ramp is only a small bump.

Three boys and three girls?  Lucky you, Dad!

The two oldest - have you started teaching them how to drive the bus yet??

Glad you had a good trip - that's what this hobby's all about!
