8V71 engine id

TomC recently told me that the 8V71 came with an intercooler as an option.  Also, that the 8V71 came with a turbo charger and an intercooler.  The torbo'd engine would have lower compression pistons, I'm told.  How can I tell whether the block will accept an aftercooler from the s/n?  If I find an 8V71 with a turbo, how can I tell if it is equiped with lower compression pistons from the S/N?  Got milk?  Anybody?
