I have a Rostra cruise control on my eagle.  I lost the magnet strapped to the drive shaft.  Can I put any old magnet on it, or do I have to order one from Rostra?  It is smaller than the size of a dime.  I was hoping Pete could jump in and give me an answer.

Thanks, David

Darrell

I have several of those magnets from past installations.  I could send you one if you'd like.

Darell,

When I saw your post I wondered why you would have those left from past installations, so I checked my bag of left over hardware from my installation 5 years ago, and guess what?, I found 3 magnets left in the bag.  Oh lucky day.  Thanks for jogging my memory, and I now remember why I never throw anything away.

Thanks,

David

gee - If I wait long enough the problems solve themselves - that's great

actually I don't think it matter very much - almost any small magnet will do

Pete, on a side issue with the Rostra, we had problems with the turn signal switch cancelling the cruise when it was on. Usually, with every lane change.

I studied the diagram and decided that the turn signal switch was doing a break before make when it switched. On thinking about it, I decided to install a single lamp on the brake light circuit to present a path to ground through the bulb for the cruise.

This prevents the cruise from behaving as though a wire to the brake light circuit has broken, and the cruise control works all the time, now.

I did notice that the unit is designed to work with either a grounding brake switch or one that connects to the hot wire.

For what it's worth.

Yes - the Rostra will absolutely disengage if it loses ground from it's BRAKE SENSE WIRE. The Rostra expects a VERY low resistance (like standard brakelights) to ground -

Most After Market cruise controls WILL NOT ENGAGE if you've switched to LED brake lights or tie the Cruise Controls Brake Sense Wire to a small higher resistance panel brake light bulb - You need to add a simple cube relay that will break the cruise control brake sense wire connections to ground.

I've modified my special "ROSTRA HINTS AND TIPS and INSTALLATION for BUS CONVERSIONS " data sheet  to reflect this concern.

If anyone wants a copy of my new Rostra data sheet (I'm a Rostra Dealer) - Just give me an email  (hawk_ii_mail at Yahoo.com)

I lost the one on my eagle too and I replaced it with a strong magnet that I found at a craft store and it worked like a charm. The Rostra is a good unit if installed correctly.
