This new law applys to off road engines but notes that, "Trucks and buses are the biggest source of diesel-generated particulate pollution".

As TomC mentioned earlier we may have less than 10 years before the state shuts down all the old 2 strokes.   So it look like time to start salting away $$ for a new engine or sell the bus before a law targeting buses makes them really hard to sell.

Opinions or comments welcome.

As you see there are exemptions for low use and low HP engines.  I have to believe that with our usage there may be some exemption available.

I have a diesel powered wood chipper, and it is exempt under this new law.

Additionally it noted that perhaps a particle trap might be enough as a retrofit for some engines.  They are after the high use stuff.

Here's the CARB press release:  http://www.arb.ca.gov/newsrel/nr072607.htm

One thing to note is they specifically word it to say that the on-road restrictions pertain to "fleets".  California defines a "fleet" as two or more of a type of vehicle.  Individuals who own a single Heavy-diesel vehicle will probably be exempt until the Berkley nutters put up the cash to "grant" an engine replacement (hell, I bought my bus for ~$1,500 - a new engine with the fancy shmancy engine computer is at least $15K installed).

No worries!

Cheers!

The last time I was in California I swore I'd never go back, this is just one more re-inforcement to that decision.
