I'm ready to install my 8kw 4 cylinder diesel generator it is made by next generation. I will be mounting it in the old condenser hole on the mci-8. I have the side of bus apart, I can eigther mount it side ways or long ways (in to the evaprator tray). I have the room eigther way. The generator has plenty of head room from overhead airlines etc. I want to use a slide & a sound box. I had looked at Fred hobes web site and saw it both ways. Your opinion. Thanks Ray

IMHO- I would mount it straight in on a slide for major work.  You could have small doors on the cabinet for oil check and fill, etc.  Then with it straight in, you can have additional storage on the sides of the gen sound box that can be easily removed for major gen work (not oil changes-design it so oil changes can be made in place-each time you slide it out, you are bending wiring and exhaust fittings).  I would suggest using a remote radiator with a squirrel cage blower.
On my transit my 10kw Powertech is mounted next to the drivers seat like a front engine and the top opens for maintenance.  The electric blower with remote radiator is under the drivers seat.  Good Luck, TomC

I agree with much of what Tom has said, However I have a Wrico 12.5 KW 4 Cyl, side mounted. It was designed for side access and all filters, oil changes, coolant changes. I find that it is quite easy access. Definitely add a good sized blower to insure air flow.
Either way your call, Mine went into the former condenser location.

Good Luck.
