Paul,

The Tach I used is a 4000RPM electronic marine tach from VDO. I used a Detroit Diesel Tach generator to drive it because I still have a 12V generator, not an alternator.

Your bus should have a huge alternator on it with one terminal marked "R". You can run many of the electronic tachs from that terminal. I believe you'll have to set the tach for 12 pulses, but I could be wrong.

Isspro, VDO, Keinzle, Stewart Warner, and many others make a tach available.

I hope this helps.

All the Setra's I've ever been in have them! All though the other day when we were having trouble with the tach in the 45'er I called Setra's tech support # and the guy told me they'd quit putting tachs in them because of all the headaches they caused? ? ? So I dunno what's up with that! But As Dallas points out they are hooked to the "R" terminal on the altenator, as to what setting. I dunno! BK  ;D ;D

Super-Pickle: What kind of bus do you have?
Far better is it to dare mighty things,to win glorious triumphs, even though they may be checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.  Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919)

Detroit Diesel Delco gear driven 50DN
270 Amp 24 volt alternators "R" Terminal hookup
The "R" terminal output is 12 volt -
   Most  6V92TA's are: (2.93 gears & 6 pulses per Revolution=17.58 pulses/rev)
   A few  6V92's can be(2.75 gears & 6 pulses per revolution=17.7  pulses/rev)
   Older GMC 8V71's can be(2.29 gears & 6 pulses per revolution=13.74 pulses/rev)

caution - The action of some regulators do make the Tack "bounce a little" when changing charging modes

If you ain't part of the solution, then you're part of the problem.

Anyone know what pulse settings I might need/have with an eagle/ 8v71 / 5 speed manual, as I don't know my gear ratios at this time.  I wouldn't mind adding a tach also.

Thanks...

Ya know, I DO have a Pulse problem in the power somewhere. The lights Puls, the Speedometer Pulses ??
I do belive shes a 6V71, could be Wrong, and she has a power problem on hills.. Verry slow.. not much Get UP and go off the line.. ??

Even though I have the 50DN and did replace the regulator with a digital one, it still pulses, although quite a bit less than with the transistorized regulator.  I have a mechanical drive off the blower that I can use a synchronized generator for the tachometer. I believe it would be the most accurate.

I too did not have a fuel gauge.  When I pulled the fuel tank to install the intake and return for the generator, I really lucked out in that there were two 5 screw round panels already to go.  I modified one for the generator pickup and return and bought an adjustable fuel sender that screwed right into the 5 hole mount.  Would suggest a zero voltage being empty with full voltage being full-are the simplest.  Good Luck, Tom,C

TomC,

Where did you get your digital regulator for your DN50?
