🚍 Transit Incident Update – Spokane, WA

A Spokane Transit Authority double-decker bus struck a low railroad overpass in downtown Spokane, causing serious damage to the upper deck. Several passengers riding on the top level were injured, and four were taken to local hospitals.

Early reports indicate the bus entered a street with a 12-foot clearance, while the double-decker buses stand at approximately 13 feet 6 inches tall. The bus was reportedly on a route it should not have been on. An official investigation is underway to determine how this occurred and what safety measures will be implemented going forward.

This incident highlights how route familiarity, clearance awareness, and infrastructure limitations are critical—especially when operating taller vehicles.

Wishing a full recovery to everyone affected.

It took some really numb thinking to perform that kind of driving.
But haven't we all done some stupid things along the way.
Bummer.

Those buses have a low clearance warning system, my Country Coach (13-4  high) had one, the problem was they don't go off till you just a few feet from obstacle. Mine went off one time when I was 1/2 way through a under pass that was 14-2 high that will get your attention and a underwear change,I also had the Collision Avoidance System if you left it on every time a car passed in 2 feet of you the thing would go off

What about the poor passenger sitting up front on the second deck? If not injured, must have cleared his bowels. Oh, upon closer examination, I guess pooping in ones pants would be the last thing to worry about.

I have the https://giraffeg4.com/  app on my phone.  It alerts me 100 yards before a bridge my bus cannot fit under to give me a warning that I will lose my roof and anyone riding on my roof if  I continue.  Anyone with a bus should have this app.
