Turbo Waste Gate Adjustment

I've been doing some research on my turbo trying to find out why I seem to have a boost issue. Besides doing leak tests and all that (which I have yet to do), I watched a video on the functioning of the waste gate. It appears that when the waste gate opens via a push from turbo pressure, that the boost is reduced because the pressure goes out of the exhaust rather than cause the turbo to spin faster. So, it appears also that if the actuator is adjusted correctly, that the gate wouldn't open as soon, therefore causing the turbo the spin faster, and causing the extra needed boost. So, open gate, boost is lost, closed gate, boost is enhanced (at least until it needs to open to prevent overpressure). Does this sound correct? I hope I am explaining this correctly enough! This is all on my Series 60 12.7 liter.

That's they way it works ,you need to check the intercooler on the back before starting to screw around with the waste gate, the inter coolers are bad about cracking and losing boost, check the hoses and clamps, and turbos get worn too. If you have a scanner you scan the turbo boost, the check engine light should come on if the waste gate is dropping the boost then go off when you take your foot off the throttle. Off the top of my head I think the waste gates on series 60 are set at 35 lbs. My Cummins ISX 15 is 55 lbs

Thanks luvrbus. I'll start with checking for cracks, hose leaks, etc. before messing with the waste gate. It's just nice knowing a little about how things work!

You have to use air and test the intercooler for leaks visible inspection will help
