We met one on one of our Alaska trips. About a 70 foot boat with a helicopter on the aft deck. Depending on your insurer there's a size cutoff there where you'll need a professional crew = $$$ and obviously someone needs to be able to drive the motorized rock.  I expect when you reach that point you're either using someone else's money and therefore don't care or you simply don't care about the fuel cost.  Either way I'll never know.

Maybe on a different note this morning I woke up in beautiful  homer Alaska  and  used my phone to catch up with t n e rest of the world and also the bus world. When I went to this site and opened a thread all the lines are bigger than the screen and I have to turn  my phone sideways to read it. I can do that but why do I have to. I did not ask anyone to change it I don't  want it changed and  I am very happy with the way things were. Also this thing does some crazy things when it updates. I don't  know all the inns and outs of the phone and have to spend time trying to figure out how to get it back. To me that is time wasted. Looks like I have to waste more time and learn about cookies   brownies and cakes or what ever else there is in these phones to stay up with the times. But at my age I have to decide what to spend my time on.

Rusty, we did not design the Forum to be smartphone friendly and without putting a lot of money and effort into redesigning the Forum, I am not sure how to solve that problem.  I suggest when you want to read the Forum, you use a computer as that is what the SMF software was designed for.  Eventually, a new software update may be smartphone friendly, but that is our of our control.

Thank you Gary. What I can't  get my head around is I have been on this Forum for a very long time and now all of a sudden it changes. Is the the phone or the forum? I read other forums ( not as good as yours) and they did not change. I understand why you run the forum the way you do and have no problem with that thank you for keeping it going.  I will turn my phone sideways and enjoy the ride.

We update the Forum occasionally as new software is released.  I will tag Krash as he is the expert on this, as this stuff is too complex for me and I like to concentrate on the magazine, but maybe he has some insight on this issue.

We try to continuously improve the system, but sometimes we take one step forward and two steps backward and I seldom have problems seeing the forum and reading the posts but others sometimes do.

I also don't have time to read all of the threads like some of you do, as like I said, I spend most of my time on the magazine and the Forum is a bit like a thorn in my side sometimes.  But if no one sends a note to the Moderator which I read every one, we frequently don't know there are problems with it.

Nothing should have changed on the forum, but we're once again logging code errors.  Last cleaned it up just over a month ago.  Only thing different since then is Jorge added the BCM header with scrolling ad banners for a few days, then took it off.  May have damaged one or more of the files.  I'll have to upload clean files and reinstall mods (again), see if that fixes things.

The other option is to upgrade to current SMF version 2.1.4, which I discussed with Gary previously.  There's a demo running here, but that appears to be broken as well.  Will have to fix it.

This forum has been plagued by gremlins since I first got involved, and problems continue at new host.  Running a forum in a subdirectory of a Wordpress install is not recommended, but I don't see how that's causing these glitches.

I'll monitor this topic, please use it to report any further issues with the forum.
