When I got my bus 3 years ago, it had NAPA filters. I ordered some stuff from Luke and decided why not support him in getting more filters. He recommended Baldwin as a better filter. Last two fluids changes I have Baldwin fuel, filter, and trani filters. They seem to work well, but can't say the NAPA were junk.
About to change fluids again. Opinions on filters??
Also pulled my air filter with a BCM buddy. It was embarrassingly dirty. He told me the one we pulled out is hard to find because it had a foam sleeve on the outside. He said they are good but getting hard to find. Luke looked. Hard. Can't find that anymore, so sent me two that work fine. Any source for the foam sleeve? Not thinking I should just put one on the filters I have. Maybe not designed for it to be added?

Nothing wrong with Baldwin filters I used them for many years,Lol being better than a Wix or NAPA filter I don't know about that one  :^ Fleetguard is probably the best filter made,it's made the engine manufacture Cummins,Donaldson is a good filter, they are sold under many name brand filters

Luke has stock in Baldwin???
He doesn't seem like shifty guy....
Thanks. I don't know how you could tell unless engines start going ca ca with a certain kind, but thought the opinion of long time mechanics is worthy of asking...

Luke is not shifty, all name brand filters are good except Fram and they are coming back with the new owners

I changed fuel filters on the bosses 2019 f350 diesel used Wix filters that are made in China SHOCKING whats new. I've been running into Timken bearings now and then that say made in China. Whats more shocking is see made in the U.S.A these days.

All the filter manufactures have plants across the world ,Wix has a huge plant across the border in Mexico where they make the NAPA Gold filters,we make nothing in the USA anymore ,if we do it is owned by a foreign company.

Coutry of origin is meaningless.

The design quality and quality control are what count.

The name brands you trust, ignore the rest.

We've done it to ourselves, flocking to lowest priced goods, the best companies had no choice but to off shore the stuff.
Find me a worker who wants to do that assembly line manufacturering job...

Would you like fries with that? Is a whole lot easier... and has a benefits package in many jurisdictions!

Happy coaching!

Regulations cause the BS it is not the work force OHSA and our EPA   are the worst here and both do good sometimes. Here you deal with the federal OHSA and EPA and then you deal with the same 2 agencies on state levels, none of the state's agencies are bad as CA.though WA and OR are getting there

Ted -

I'm a NAPA Gold user, have been for years - even before owning a bus (Search Napa FIL-1038 to see what it fits!) Made by WIX, never have had an issue with them - their quality has always been high.

NAPA Part numbers for your files:
Oil Filter = 1970
Primary Fuel Filter = 3118
Secondary Fuel Filter = 3120
Optional Primary Fuel Filter w/ Drain = 3418

WIX numbers are:
Oil = 5170
Primary Fuel = 33118
Secondary Fuel = 33120
Primary w/ Drain = 33418

If you have the big round air filter like I have inside the curbside engine access door (see the attached photo), it's a NAPA Gold 6726

I have no issues with Baldwin filters, never used them, but also trust Luke's opinion. I just buy the NAPA filters from my local store, as they run sales on their filters twice a year (Spring and Fall) with usually 40-50% off, so I usually buy a couple of each.

All good filters are judged by the type media used and the surface area, I like the Napa Gold too because the by pass is on top of the filters. The Cummins Fleetguard LS I use on my ISX15 is double glass media with a magnetic screen. They are not cheap, but neither is a rebuild on a ISX Cummins. For a 2 stroke the most important filter is the air filter they take 2 times as much cfm of air, Donalson and Parker are hard to beat there because of the way they are constructed and the glue used, it sucks when a cheap air filter come apart and goes into the turbo on TA engines. All filters have a shelf life with a expiration date people never check,NAPA runs sales to rotate the stock most sellers don't do that lol they will sell what ever they have in stock.

Growing up in the service station, truck stop, repair shop business. We sold a lot of Fleetguard for diesel's We sold and used mostly Purolator on gas engines. For the odd filters we didn't stock we had a uncle and aunt that had a NAPA store twenty miles away. I mostly use NAPA gold and Wix currently. Always buy on there stock up sale. My JD dealer runs a good sale in Feb every year so I normally buy my filters for my Deere equipment then for the year.

luvrbus

WW Willams will have a sale on filters probably in a couple  of weeks they have good prices for filters in a set for all the Detroit, Kubota and Allison transmissions. I usually load up on Allison World filters on sale,It is kinda of dumb Allison uses different lengths of filters for the same transmission.

Thanks everyone. I was kidding about Luke. I trust him, but like the idea that filters age and NAPA having sales to keep fresh stock. I copied your numbers into my "stays in the bus notebook" RJ. Good stuff from you as always. Good to hear from Rancher! Almost time to start putting things in the ground around your place?

I am headed to see my Prevost Professor on the 20th to see if he can find the gremlin hiding in my ignition system. When I turn the key to on, I hear the engine run relay click, but unless the dashboard lights up, it won't start. Changed the ignition switch and found a lose wire connected to the start button. That fixed it for a while. But now back to turn the key off and on 4 or 5 times before dash gages light up. It will not start unless they do. I have good multimeters but not smart enough to diagnose it.

I hope you are all well and getting ready to get your buses back on the road as the snow and ice and salt goes away.
