Fuel Filter question

    First, a little background.  I have a small Racor fuel filter (I think it as a model 980908, Filter R12T) It has 4 threaded openings in the housing near the top. 2 have arrows indicating fuel IN and 2 have arrows indicating fuel OUT. In it's previous life it was on a generator, one fuel line in, 1 fuel line out, the other two openings were plugged. According to my manuals, my generator consumes a max of .8 gallon per hour at full load and the ProHeat uses .3 gallon per hour when running. OK, here is my question, Can I run a 1/4" or 3/8" fuel line in and 2 fuel lines out, 1 to my generator and 1 to my ProHeat? Thanks, Jack

I think I found the answer to my question, but would like any BTDT experiences. I found Racor (now Parker) website. They show 2 housings that use the R12T filter. Incidentally, the "T" means a 10 micron filter, "S" is 2 micron and "P" is 30 micron. Is 10 micron adequate or should I look for a 2 micron filter? Both housings have a maximum flow rate of 15 GPH. Since I will need approx. 1.1 GPH, I don't see any problems, But I have overlooked the obvious before.  Thanks, Jack

A 10 micron fuel filter is what is used on the fule pumps in stations. 
I have been in the fueling service business for 30 years, course I just sold that business and as soon as my house sells I will BE RETIRED AND FULL TIMMING it in my MCI 7 with the Harley and Jeep.

Hi Jack,

I have the same filter set up on my generator [12.5], I used one of the plugged taps for my ProHeat.

I ran a 1/4" line about 30' and the gen and ProHeat both work just fine.

Jack,

Detroit fuel filters are 30 microns (nominal) for the primary and 10 microns (Nominal) for the secondary.

If you go finer than 10 microns, you may end up replacing a lot of fuel filters for no real reason.

You may want to consider  installing shut-off and check valves in each line. Then, if you develop a problem, both systems are not down at once. It also helps in trouble shooting.

Thanks guys for the advise.  Looks like I will install it with a shut-off valve on each line and stay with the 10 micron filter.  Jack
