Are the button head grease fittings still made ? those were common when I was starting in the work place my dads equipment had a lot of those and you used a hand pump grease gun that it took a 5 gal pail of grease to fill

I have those on my old D4 Cat. With the special fitting on the grease gun to match.

So did I. There is also a smaller sized version, but not a LOT smaller, I haven't used those. I suspect they are all 1/8npt so can't retrofit to the 1/4unf zerks.

I just ordered the Lomax tip. That link to Amazon shows it for about $40 and wouldn't ship so I cut/pasted the info and found the same thing on amazon for 20.

I saw it on the Internet. It MUST be true...

Those drive in zerks are the spawn of Satan. But at least the hole is usually the right size to tap to 1/4-28.

I do not have an cordless grease gun but was looking at the one made by Rigid since I have other Rigid tools, batteries and chargers.  One thing to like about Rigid is that it comes with a lifetime service warranty which even includes the battery.  That might only be if you buy it through Home Depot though.

Lifetime service doesn't mean a thing anymore. Couple years, parts are obsolete, or HD stops carrying that brand, which is quite common with them.
Go buy a Harbor Freight cordless Hercules blue one. Pretty decent reviews and cheap enough to throw away and buy a new one when or if it craps out.

Those Habor Freight guns are over 200 bucks when they get through with you

Yes if you don't already have a battery and charger. They do give a 25 buck credit for buying a battery and charger. If you already have any hercules brand, you would already have a battery and charger. I bought a 3d printed battery adapter to usea hercules battery on their bauer or dewalt brand to use their buffer that is not available in the hercules brand. Works nice.

I used to buy power tools at Harbor Freight for the crews - 10 to 1 (HF vs Name brand). The tools never made it through a project anyway and the bean counters loved how I was beating project's the tool budget...

They've definitely stepped up on the quality of their merchandise over the years. New tool Tuesday showcases all new offerings for the week. Sometimes several, sometimes a few. Store owners have a challenge readjusting merchandise to have room for new stuff. They are adding a couple of new locations every month Owned by Eric Schmidt. No stockholders. Private company.

Habor Freight still has a lot of junk at higher prices,I notice some of the better tools in H/F are made in India now like the Lowes Kobalt brand,I did buy a hand suction gun from H/F a few weeks back they were on closeout for under 3 bucks ea so I bought Van one too .H/F warranty is not that great any longer unless you purchase their insurance

Bought their Hercules extreme 1/2" impact. 5 year warranty. It spins off the coach lugnuts. Going to get their mega battery for it and other tools should help keep torque high, even after 8 or 10. Guess it depends on how much you use a tool as to what you prefer. Some prefer Snap on, even at their insane prices.

I don't buy snap/on anylonger they have dealers running routes that are complete a @$#,Mac has good dealers ,but you can buy the commerical grade of Proto,Allen, Craftmans and others for a few bucks more than H/F even Snap/on has a commercial grade that cost 1/2 as much as the Snap/On shinny stuff they sell to the shops, but the mobile dealers won't sell the commercial grade.Only good thing about Snap/On is you never lose money on their tool boxes or tools ,I sold my Snap/On boxes and tools to a dealer for 3 times of what I paid 30 or 40 years ago

Even HF sells a premium grade now, including tool boxes.
