Clean lime deposit's from fresh water system or Winterize Water Lines

I was talking to Gary at the bus rally and he mentioned that he has problem with lime build in his bus since he is living in it and traveling full time with lots of different water sources.

I mentioned to him that he needed to install a Y value so he could pump in a high concentration of vinegar or CLR to help clean up the deposits in the fresh water system.

I stumbled across a kit that can be used for this in a RV store (which I purchased).

Here is an Amazon link to the same kit with everything that you need:

https://www.amazon.com/Trailer-CONVERTER-System-Antifreeze-Converter/dp/B01KR7D16A/ref=sr_1_2?crid=MP4RJDE6B9NS&keywords=valterra+water+pump+conversion+kit+for+rv+winterizing&qid=1649692906&sprefix=valterra+rv+pump+conv%2Caps%2C780&sr=8-2

You can permanently attach this just before your water pump and at night use it with one water outlet at a time to pump in the CLR solution.

You also might want to add food coloring so that you know it has fully filled the water path.

Just let it sit and soak until you need fresh water and then purge it.

I hope this helps...

Just wondering how effective it would be to run a small water softener at the inlet source to eliminate the build up of hard water deposits. Like a lot of us do in our homes but on a smaller scale (no pun intended)!

This is quite common. There are special portable units made which are used by many full-timers in the RV world, especially for those in areas with exceptionally hard water.

Dan another solution is to get your hard water from Uncle Ned, from what I've heard there is never any scaling or deposits left on the jar!

I'm one of them! I have an RO system from Sparky's RV & Marine in Parker, AZ, based on a recommendation from Pearly Benson.

The way mine is set up, it fills the freshwater tank on the coach, and then I use water out of the tank, rather than shore water. I know an RO system uses a lot of water in the process, which is why I only use it when in a FHU campground. Waste RO water goes into the sewer line off the grey water tank, which is always open in campgrounds with hookups.  I like it, and it definitely keeps the hardness crud at bay.

RO systems work too. I was thinking more of a traditional water softer, just a portable one.

Ok lots of good advice on how to have soft water as your travel and not get in our ambassador's (Gary) situation.

I sent Gary a PM giving him a heads up as we had previously discussed when doing bus nut chatter at the rally and he is experiencing sort of the worst case scenario.

So I started this thread to pass along with a nugget of information that might be useful to others.

I truly know how much time you can spend scratching your head while in a hardware store trying to solve X problem. (Spent another $50.00 today for incrementally working my way to a solution on one of them, plus another $150.00 worth of my productive time if I could bill it out).

This seemed to be kit that you could just throw just a little bit of money at; have in your hip pocket and not have to rack your brain too much for not one but a couple of potential problems.
