Hi all!

I'm getting ready to replace the ancient power steering hoses on my 1981 MC9, and it looks like there are a pair of quick disconnects mounted in the engine compartment that allow you to get the flexible hoses to the power steering pump off where they attach to the hard lines that are plumbed forward. Before I go in there like a bull in a china shop, does anyone have any tricks or knowledge about how to get them off, and what kind of fittings they might be? I can't find anything in the manual or archives other than them being mentioned. Thanks in advance!

Re you sure those are not just bulkhead fittings?

I suppose they could be, but the manual says they're quick disconnects. I was thinking MCI put them in there so engines could be swapped out with a minimum of messing around. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Beware their use of the term "quick disconnect" it is not likely what you think it is.

Best to start soaking those fittings with your favorite penetrating fluids, several days ahead of the project.

Correct size wrenches, do not use an adjustable!!! Just keep working them, spray, let it soak, keep working them. Snapping something here will ruin your day.

Happy coaching!

Thanks BW and others. I've spent the last week or so getting together the right flare nut wrenches, and PB Blaster is my best friend with this bus - hard to believe I've had her 15 years. Thanks for the insight, and I'll keep everyone posted as to what I find.

I've  had good sucess with the crowsfoot flarenut end on a ratchet with short extension and a long handled ratchet or breaker bar. Some of those wrenches have a sloppy fit and tend to round off stubborn nuts.
