In Minnesota federal funds certainly aren't paying the full cost of interstate highways.  State funds pay for the majority of interstate construction.

I doubt that Belfert MN is always asking for grants from the Feds to build highways I read that in the Bridge and Road magazine. They got 1/2 of the 50 million they asked for to rebuild the state highway 14.Here in the Phoenix area we have no Interstate loops the 101,202 and 303 are State highways because AZ didn't won't to deal the Feds laws on loops .I have taken the DOT licensing in 3 different states the Fed part is the same BS in all 3 states ,the state part will vary alot for each state

Sure, they get federal grants every year, but they usually cover no more than about 25% of the cost.  The current phase of the Hwy 14 project is $108 million while the next phase of Hwy 14 construction starting next year is estimated at $70 to $75 million.  MNDOT got a federal grant of $22 million for the next phase of Hwy 14 construction so federal taxpayers are paying about 30% while Minnesota taxpayers are paying the remaining 70%.

MN has $160 million applied for pending grants plus the 50/50 matching funding from the DOT , all states play the game not just MN.Don Laughlin paid 2.8 million out of his pocket for the bridge across the Colorado River, now the new Harry Reid bridge across the River is close to 30 million with Bullhead paying 1/2 and Feds paying 1/2,  DC is playing games with the taxpayers

In Colorado interstates are built  by the state to federal standards and all that comes with it plenty  of wasted money on fed regulations.  The project is not completely funded  by the feds the state also has to pony up. As to concrete roads in the long run concrete is cheaper.  The older  roads didn't have dowel barsi n the sawed joints thus the movement.  Now with dowels both slabz move not as noticeable.  They are refining the process all the time. In Colorado all roads are tested for smothness and if out of specs they are ground to be within specs. Short story a few years ago a  contractor had to do a bunch of grinding at his expense and to add insult to injury they deducted from his concrete paving for not being thick enough after grinding. He filed bankruptcy.

All states I worked  in have the same Wayne I have had to ride in the car with the sensors before lol then they screw up the transition to the bridge and let it slide Ok is the worse about it they could never get it right.Sad but diamond grinding and the deduction would cause a contractor to go broke

Up and up it goes.

This AM Toronto woke up to gasoline at CDN$1.44 a litre, with more hikes to come.

That's US$4.32 per US gallon

Happening around the world, we are not alone...

Better get the tank filled, if you haven't already...

The math:

X 3.78 makes that CDN$5.44 per US gallon
Exchange rate this morning $1.26 :1
US$4.32 per US gallon

Happy coaching!

Some interesting information:

https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/gasoline-prices-adjusted-for-inflation/

When adjusted for inflation, we've paid much more at points in history for fuel.

There is no inflation I know it is true the people in DC said so, a 100$ bill will not fill my pickup anymore

Not sure if you're joking or not.

It's true that the dollar & cents we pay for fuel is more than we paid in the past, but so are our salaries/wages. Adjusting things out to compare buying power then vs. buying power now we used more of our buying power in the past to buy fuel than now.
