I am looking for an air shutdown cylinder for an 8v71 as mine is leaking air. The local Detroit dealer says it should be electric and does not know what I am talking about.

Thank you,
Bob

You dont need a cylinder. Call Luke at US Coach in NJ. He has the seal for the piston inside. Real simple to clean and repair. Just need to remove the two allen screws and remove cap. Inside is a rod ( showing ) with a large nailhead with a groove that the seal fits over. Clean, replace seal reassemble and fixed.

Yes, call Luke in New Jersey - (856) 794-3104, he might have it or a rebuild kit. Detroit dealers will gladly sell you the electric version they use on newer stuff for $200+. I would not be surprised if they would charge $200+ to put it on.  :o

If it leaks, put out a few drops of air gun oil in the air fitting.  If it still leaks, pack it with grease behind the plunger. If it STILL leaks, find a good used one.  The dealer is a total rip off.

I bought the little seal from Luke. Cleaned and inspected the cylinder, installed the little seal and reinstalled on coach.

That brings up a good question.  With inflation, what is $280 in todays money?  I've got a lot of parts and know what they were worth 15-20 years ago when I got them.
