Hi All,

Tom, got Iota converters and now both on the 04 are toast, or toasted batteries by boiling them out.  Checked and on charged battery have 17.6 volts!!!  Disconnected them and need to replace them.  What should I use?

Also anyone have a good front passenger clearance light lens as mine got broken.

Talked to Iota yesterday and they confirmed my units are toast.  Tom C. suggested these  units when I got them, but he reminded me I was on my own for the decision.  Actually they did well for a number of years, but eventually failed and boiled batteries.  Iota does not repair my units as they are too old.  Anyone here opened up one of these to see if there is anything obvious, like a cold solder joint?  FWIW, the set screws were loose where the + and - 12 volt cables connect to them.  And showed signs of overheating.  For those here who may forget these connections, you might want to check that they are tight from time to time.  The unit that had overheated connections is a 55 amp. and my problem is that it is putting out 17.6 volts when powered.  So that is why it can overcharge a battery.  Went to AGM Intimidator 8D battery.  Those weigh 161 lbs., so no, you can't lift it yourself or you are a lot bigger than I am if you can.  I made up new #2 24" cables for the AGM.  Bought these from NAPA and got the eye lugs to crimp.  Went to Harbor Freight to get a crimper and they had a hydraulic one for around $50.  It is advertised to do 1 to 14 crimps.  Well I couldn't get it over the #2 lugs and it looks way to small to crimp #2.  Went to where I got the AGM and they were able to crimp them for me.  Those AGMs are pretty pricy.  $600.  So I went to a battery place and got a 2017 City bus takeout for $200.  Should work for a while.

Anyway, if anyone has a suggestion of what might be wrong with these Iotas, please let me know.  Will pull them apart to see what makes them tick.  Bill T.  04 and 06.
