Hey guys,
I am trying to assist Gene Lewis in selling his bus and wish to post it with all the information about it but I am not sure where to post for sure.  Let me know.

Post it in the BCM magazine Gary dosen't charge that much and Gene will get a lot of exposure all over the net

Email the the info on our Contact Us tab and we will run it for Gene.  Normally we charge $50 to run an ad for up to 1 year in the Classifieds on our website, but we will do it for Gene for free as he has submitted articles for BCM and we try to take care of people who help us out.

Thanks Gary, I have a soon to be Army retired friend that is interested and my assumption is that busses on here can be trusted more than craigslist or other online stuff.

       Gene is a very talented and skillful converter (he taught construction and building techniques in school shop classes for many years).  He also documented the his conversion build in a series of web articles.

Yes Branderson, I listed a bus for sale on Craigslist once and all kinds of nuts called asking why I was asking so much for such an old bus.  They had no concept of the advantages of a bus over a stick-n-staple motorhome so they wasted a lot of my time.  I pulled the ad after 3 calls.  People looking at ads on BCM understand the value of buses more than the average person for obvious reasons so they will also be asking the right questions that you would expect from someone with an understanding of bus conversions.

No matter where you find a bus ad, please do your full due diligence in having it fully checked out by an independent bus mechanic and backed up with documentation. These old things have all sort of hidden issues that nobody is purposely hiding. Just having the best idea of the condition of the coach is in the long term best for all parties.

It is difficult to find a perfect, NO RUST bus that is nearly 40-50 years old.  You do have to inspect your bus for sure but some rust in no bearing weight areas can be tolerated and you can plan to have to weld some places to replace some metal.  The older these busses get the ruster they will be!  When you buy these older buses already converted you do have to look in all areas and think, "Can I Fix This" if needed!  Once rust starts it just continues over time to spread like arthritis.  My Eagle was an exception that I got stuck with and I had to completely replaced every piece of metal from the floor level down!!! You talk about getting raped!  That is how I felt then, that is why I made a inspection CD  to assist newbies in before purchasing a inspection guide for Eagles in particular.  Replacing the entire lower framing in my bus took many years to do alone and I also "Double Framed" every single piece as well.  I know Cliff would not have done this but I choose to do this as it is my bus and I did it my way.  Wait till you see how I reinforced the front of my bus in one of BCM magazines to be written and published soon.  Anyhow, yes by all means get your bus inspected to see if you have a complete restoration being needed or just a few areas to be reinforced for reinsurance.  If you know how to weld and fabricate then you have a plus to your project, BUT, if you cannot weld etc. then this will be expensive to have done by someone else.  You're best bet in that case you do not have a welding / fabricating background is to look for the youngest bus possible if affordable.  That will bring the price up but you should have less problems.

Now a bus similar to Gene's that is worked on over years and years and maintained religiously you should have the same results hopefully as a newer bus.  The only thing wrong with a newer bus is you will have many instruments monitoring everything from your oil temperature to how much toilet paper you still have on the roll in your bathroom.  All this newer instrumentation will make your knowledge of buses to change from Welder/Fabricator to Electrical /technician to be able to  troubleshoot your bus electrical system at all times as I know you will have many electrical shutdown periods as your sensors also get old and the contacts get dirtier etc. 

Myself, I like the mechanical older type buses, like a 57 chevy compared to a 2018 Porsche.  I do not have the years left to learn this type of bus maintenance to troubleshoot on the road.  Another thing to remember, when you are on the road and break down the price for electrical work immediately shoots up as they figure if you can afford these newer Prevost etc. you can sure afford a couple of $150 working hours to troubleshoot if it turns out to be that short a time. I want to know as much about my bus as humanly possible to make repairs myself as I am paranoid, real paranoid thinking everyone I do now know is out to gouge me financially.  If only they knew the truth!!

Having a bus sit for years is not good unless under cover or in a garage.  In the open field is not good.  Gene said he made up his mind to sell his bus as it has been sitting awhile and he does not want the rust factor to begin.  His bus is ready for over the road use right now and nothing would make him happier than to see his bus continue to give someone else the same pleasure he and his family got over the years. Oh, when you go to look at Gene's bus do not be in a hurry, Gene is so interesting with his stories of his trips etc. and all the history of his bus it is like being on National Geographic TV show.  You will not find a finer man to do business with or just to come and look at his bus.  You will leave educated and your day will be much brighter as you leave.  Promise.
