Question -- is it necessary to install a compressor *and* tank?  I have lots of tanks taking up space already!  Why not take the output from the onboard aux. compressor right into the accessory tank and then use it (air chuck for tires, cross-over emergency valve to the wet tank for moving the bus when the engine won't start, etc.)?  The built-in tanks on these units seems space wasted to me.
That is what I am doing. Was trying to take the quick and easy way of just bolting in the small HF compressor. Instead, going to remove the tank and use an old Craftsman oil compressor. That bay is already plumbed for a compressor so it should not take much effort.

It is only going to be used to air up before heading out of camp or air up tires. So manually controlling it should hardly be an inconvenience. Valves and quick disconnects and hose is all in place so hope it will be an easy job.

Make sure to check the warranty period and the duty cycle. I had a Via Air 24V 100% duty cycle for my air door with a 5gal aux tank compressor lasted a year even though it ran a few times a day. Warranty expired one month before the piston compression ring failed and wouldn't compress air any more. Paid over $200 and they wanted shipping to them and $45 to look at it plus parts. Get a compressor with oil and put an inline filter on it. Oil less compressors don't last long if pushed too hard and they over heat.

I have used the pancake compressors for 8 years of fulltiming and frankly I hate them. Takes way too long to air up coach, and will not air up coach tires no matter what. Go with a higher pressure heavier duty compressor and you'll be happy. I'll be doing that myself. My good friend has the California air compressor and it's very quiet.
