4106 Insulation

Just starting to shave down the spray foam down to the pvc furring strips.
This leaves me with 3.25 ( R23 ) in my walls and ceiling and R20 in my floor.
Before I sprayed the foam I sprayed a silicone rubber liner on the interior of the shell,
installed PVC furring strips, installed a grid of 1" conduit, and front to back 1.25" systems conduit.
The blue painters tape makes it easy to see where the furring strips are and the wire wheel on my grinder does not eat up the pvc furring strip.
There is a snow drift of light green snow blowing across my yard and I have only done one wall.

Outside air temp 98F : shell surface temp 125F : inside surface temp with no fans or AC is 101F

I think it looks great as it is Darkspeed. No need to cover the walls. Just remove the blue painters tape and leave it as the finished product and hang some Stalactites from the ceiling and paint it tan.  It will be the neatest bus out there. That and some mood lighting and you will be all set.  :-)

Took a break waiting for the 3M full face respirator to show up from amazon.

The green snow really hurts when it leaks past the goggles.

Good news is the insulation + PVC furring strips are doing a great job of insulation and isolation.

Cant wait to get the insulated windows!

The 3M full face mask is a must.

The 6" wire cup on the grinder is much faster than cutting back with knives and it lets you put a radius in it.

I had mine professionally done-both times by All American Foam. First time (1994) the foam was incredibly stinky-but stuck like glue. The second time for my truck, it still smelled but no where near as bad (2010). Course, the newer stuff doesn't stick as well.
The professional guys make their own grinding wheel. It is a 7" heavy (1/2") aluminum disc with nuts bolted to it. What this does is to shave off the foam in a more coarse way-as compared to using a wire brush that makes for fine dust. But-use whatever works for you.
All foaming should have 1x2 fir strips screwed over going fore and aft (Like what Darkspeed did) to completely cover the metal. When you only spray to the level of the metal, you still get hot and cold transfers into the interior. Good Luck, TomC

Most of the pay to spray jobs I have seen dont get 100% fill and they dont pay attention to the hidden areas. The reason for the wire wheel rather than the stud disk is the wire wheel does not eat up the furring strips like the stud wheel will, in fact the wire wheel will not even eat the painters tape if don correctly. but it does create a huge blue powdery mess that lasts for about two weeks until the suns uv rays break down the foam powder floating around the yard.

It was interesting-American Foam didn't use a respirator. Instead, he had a special helmet with a 1 1/2" hose from the helmet going all the way outside the bus to an old Kirby upright vac that was pushing the air into his helmet from outside the bus. But then again, he does this everyday. Good Luck, TomC

IM not sure Kirby air qualifies as breathing air lol...

Well its done, now im going to seal it.

I usually use white roof paint to seal it which keeps any foam odors from off-gassing to the interior.

That looks really good.

I might try the paint over to seal mine, although mine has been done for a week there is no noticeable smell like there was the first day.

The guy who did mine said to stay away and air it out for the first 24 hours due to off gassing.
