Anyone heading up to Oregon to catch the full solar eclipse next month? Might be fun for an impromptu rally. I'm planning on boondocking somewhere in the NF, should be plenty of places to pull off and park for a couple days.

They expect 250,000 sight seeing folks in Central OR alone.  Unknown number of folks elsewhere.  Public safety services are going to be on full call out and alert.

All the good motel and RV park spaces were sold off YEARS ago.  Price gouging continues.  Any prior reservation may not be honored unless more $$$ paid.

We are staying home.  It may end up being complete mayhem on the highways.  Consider a lack of common available items like water, food, fuel and decency.

We are at 42N, 123W.  Close enough.  Do not forget the proper eye protection.  We expect hundreds of eye injuries alone.  Some predict a total social breakdown.

Unless you can arrive at a prior dedicated secure location one week early and are prepared to stay one week after ... do not?  Expect the mother of all traffic jams.

No problem here. Where I'm living, the eclipse passes right overhead.

Will do some planning and intention is to get up there several days ahead and boondock somewhere nice in the NF. No rush leaving either on the other side. Should be able to avoid the crush of day trippers.

If done correctly the Solar Sighting would be very fun.  We got our special "approved" solar sunglasses way early.  We bought only 36.  Gave away some.  Some insisted upon payment for others.  Now have run out.  Made a few bucks!

Unless you have very good prior planning including a prior scouting trip with all contingencies planned for and play acted upon, one may be just planning on the ultimate road trip to hell and back.  If one gets back.  Could be bad.

Very bad.  Us first responders up here in SW OR USA have table topped this one over and over.  Too many things can go wrong.  Too few things may go right.   A spur of the moment trip might be a receipt for disaster.  Just saying this now.

Your decision.  Many lookie losers from CA.  Hundreds of thousands of folks without a clue.  No planning.  No fuel home.  Little or no water.  Little food.  All demanding services that are non existent.  Hundreds blinded.  Yep.  Worse case.

Or ... everything will be calm collected and perfect in every way.  This warning sounds horrible and it is meant to be.  Stay out of Central West Oregon.  Not a good idea.  We may not be able to cope with our own.  Abandon Hope All Who Enter Here!  :)

Respectfully.  :)

Or an under reaction from Californians.  Pick your poison.  :)

The last time I remember that we had a solar eclipse I was in California and I was working in my shop.  I took a welding helmet and looked at the sun and it was a partial eclipse.  Okay.  I went back in the shop.

Smart move. Welding helmets are excellent at keeping harmful light out.

This will be my 3rd total eclipse.

I never even looked at the blood moon. I've seen harvest moons before.

If you were planning just for visiting boondocking buses, it'd be a very different plan.

If any busnut can't get top central Oregon and experience the eclipse without finding a place to boondock for a few days, they might consider selling it and buying a condo on the beach.
