What's the best water filter to use (coming into the coach from a hose)?

I use Camco from Camping World ,but I have seen these things at Wallyworld.

I have two filters on the inlet. They are different micron filters BUT all they do is remove rust and trash.  I only count on them to keep the valves (kitchen lav toilet and shower) from getting abrasive material that will make for maintenance issues.  I carry drinking water in separate containers.  I don't think there is a filter that will improve the quality of water for consumption. The filters that I use are stock off the shelf Whirlpool from lowe's.

The simple route is to go to Home Depot/ Lowe's and buy a whole house water filter then put fittings on it that will screw into the bus city water inlet and another that will accept the water hose.  There are a multi-tude of various filters that will fit the cannister and claim better filtering as the price goes up.  I use the filter for rust and sediment when filling up my water tanks.  Also, you can buy water testing strips and readers to see the quality of water you are taking in.

I have one of those whole house filters, but you have to remember, even though the filters come in varying micron capability, they don't filter out bacteria and germs, only rust and silt. I change the filter in ours every 6 months. I used to have a clear glass housing that I could see the filter through, but it froze a couple of winters ago and I went cheap and replaced it with an opaque one.

Clear filters promote the growth of algae when in sits static in the sunlight. Ours was clear & I spray painted the exterior of the housing sith flat black paint. Algae won't grow now...

The best filter IMHO is a carbon filter.   I use this one in my home and also in my coach.

It's recommended you put a sediment filter before it to make the carbon one last longer.   I put a sediment filter going in to my coach and put the carbon filter after the water pump and tee, that way if I add water to my tank it doesn't go thru the carbon filter.  The carbon filter takes out nearly all of the chlorine and you want some chlorine in your tank to eliminate algae.

Mine is hard plumbed into the water system behind a closed bay door so it doesn't get any sunlight. If it were outside, it probably would have frozen many times over. We keep a little heat in the bay all winter along with electric pipe wrap on both the water hose and the sewer hose or we'd be in sorry shape. After every shower, we put windshield cleaner down the drain so the shower P-trap doesn't freeze because it runs over the fuel tank and I'm not putting heat in there.
