ccbmstr, Just because only one wire is hooked up this does not restrict you to 30 amp. You have a 50 amp 120v service, compared to a 50 amp 240v service. If your breaker is 50 amp and wire size is large enough. Clear as mud ? Instead of 2 wires at 50 amp each you have 1 at 50 amp.

Yabbut - his original photo clearly shows a double pole breaker which he has now told us is somehow connected to only one leg of a 50 amp cord.  There's a ton of possible ways that could be hooked up and all of them are wrong.  He needs to figure out what he has and either fix it or understand it well enough to use it safely.  We simply don't know what he has and right now he doesn't either.
