When I built my 05 I had to talk hard to get corian that I could use to make all the accent pieces on my bus. The only way I could do it is as long as did not glue they would give the corian. The shower base was very expensive and I don't think it would be that hard to build. It is a special item thus the price goes up.
My ? is does anyone know of a way to get certified to be able to buy hard surface. What I have found is you have to have a shop that does that kind of work and be Oked by someone that already does the stuff to take the the classes to be able to buy the stuff. I have worked with corian and it does not take many more skills than wood working. I am not that bad at woodworking. I will take the classes if I could get into them. I have found the hard surface industry is very close knit.

you might want to try formica solid surface it might be easier

http://solidsurface.com/ideas-guides/instructional-guides

you are right THEY think it is special but it is easy to work with

not much call for it today as every one wants granite or quarts tops

but corian are pig headed and will not lower the price to sell more ?

big difference between solid surface and granite , quartz

solid surface you can cut with a regular jig saw if you have to . crappy cut but it will work . with quartz and granite nothing but diamond will cut or polish it

ya it sure helps if you deal with the supplier a lot , then you can get some deals

Wayne -

When we did our bus the company that did our countertops sold sheets of the Formica solid surface (pretty sure that's what it was, way cheaper than corian).  They were a distributor and you didn't need to be certified or anything.

I think the sheets were 8' x 30" x 1/4".  They were pricey though, about 200 - 300$ each.  1/2" was like 400 - 500 each.  White in color.  If you wanted a different color price went up.  It wasn't much more than the price of the sheets to have them do the work.

I think I paid 800 total for a 6' countertop with a solid surface sink and an additional 24x30" countertop on the other side.  They also did our pull out for free and gave me a few extra pieces.

It was a good company and the guys were pretty honest and did a good job.  I spent quite a few dollars there.  Unfortunately they got bought out.

Bottom line is....   if you can find a commercial supplier of solid surface you might be able to make a deal with them.

Hope you can find a place.

Thank You Sean. Ned all the kids and grandkids will be here for Christmas. Not enough time to stop in Louisiana and then get to Florida. Maybe next year when all the kids spend Christmas with the outlaws.
We are going to try very hard to get to John Mellis rally in I think May. Hope you can make that rally.

We had Silestone (from Home Depot) installed in our house. We swear by it-spilled some Blueberry on it and left it over night to dry. A little Comet with bleach easily cleaned it up. Also, Silestone has a Peterbilt truck that goes around the country with samples demonstrating the fact that Silestone (quartz) can take the vibration of over the road use. I'm using Tea Leaf in my truck. Good Luck, TomC

Thanks Tom. I need a hard surface I can form and I don't think silestone can be.

Wayne  If John will let us other brand in we can park close so we will not catch the dreaded eagle rust. LOL

Always have a good time with that bunch.

May have to let Tom Hamrick park with us since he is no longer a eagle owner.

But we might have to make a special place for Prevo owners.

Always have a little spring water for give away.. to strong for me.

Hey Wayne,
I'm new to the forum as well as bus ownership. What I'm not so new at is solid surface fabrication. I've owned/operated a cabinet/millwork shop for 30 years. Be happy to help you out if I can. I'm in SW PA, not sure where you are. While the material is not difficult to work, there are many simple conditions that when ignored can lead to product failure...Manufactures do not like warranty claims by folks that don't follow the rules...you know the drill. Feel free to PM and provide some details and we'll see where this leads.
