It would seem to me that the reaction of the driver of the dashcam truck is a real clue.  His WTF exclamation when the truck began to move would mean that he saw immediately what was going to happen.

And if he had crept up just a little bit more, he could have been smacked up the side of his head by the rear of the trailer. Even if the truck had a side air bag (which is very unlikely), it probably would have killed him.
