I have always used Delo 100 because the was the most readily available. I burned/leaked about a gallon per thousand miles; maybe even a bit more.  This last oil change, I went through the extra effort to get Delvac 1240 as has been recommended by Clifford and Don F.  I just returned from a 600 mile round trip and my dipstick still reads full.  What's with that??

There are still leaks, but they are not that substantial.  One possibility that comes to mind is that I was not towing my Jeep this trip.  But then again, I think I made up for the lighter load by going faster and therefore working the engine about as hard.  The temps on the way back were 100+ for much of the trip too.

Although I find it surprising, I am contemplating the possibility the Delvac is a less burnable brew.  Of course, that does not mean that it is better for the engine.  With the Delo, it was always running on fresher oil.

That is very interesting. I have always used Shell 40 weight by the drum, but if Delvac 1240 is that much better, I should give it a try. I doubt that not having your tow vehicle would make that much difference.

My 2 stroke (8V92TA) with 87,000 miles uses very little if any oil between oil changes with Delo 100. Maybe I could switch to Delvac and the engine may make some and sell what it makes off.  Cliff has been telling us about this oil for years and next oil change at Prevost will give it a try.
