Tranny filter part number?

A friend with an Model 10 Eagle w/ series 60 and Allison need a tranny filter.  Anyone have a guess to the proper filter?

I believe its an HT740.  The owner tried to get it serviced twice but the shops didnt have the correct filters.   Now it wont go into gear unless its rev'd up.  He was also told 100k miles between services.   He was told the filter and housing were 'antiquated'

The 740 has a washable screen inside the pan and should have 2 external filters that are easy to get at NAPA,they use so many different housings just match the filter and service the 740 at 25,000 to 50,000 miles depending on the fluid type

Thanks Cliff!  I havent seen the tranny yet, he'll be here tom'w.  I'm going on what Im being told.  Cleaning a screen should be easy.  And external filters easier.  Lets hope its a 740.  Not sure what else it could be.

LOL watch the 7 gals of oil overhead it can be nasty,he may have a B500 behind the series 60 and the filter upgrade was never done the old filters on a B500 are a PITA to locate

Havent seen the tranny yet but the owner says it has no external filters.  And it has 100k on the oil and filter.

Hey Van!  You guessed it.  We cant seem to identify the tranny.  I was trying to pick up filters for it today.  He's in Boston today, we're heading in to see his show tonight, then spend a few days turning wrenches at my house. 

As you know, he has to rev it up to get it into gear.  Tonight is the last show on the tour and all he has to do it drop off the band in NYC.   That boy is always livin' on the edge!!

mine is a spin on... the only sure thing you can do is start at the trans oil cooler and follow the hose... should lead to the filter.

The filter should be a Wix 51623 but people change bases so you never can be sure

or NAPA 1623 but mine is a MT644 I just changed it.

Simple-if the two filters are built into the oil pan, it is a B500. If the transmission has a deep steel pan, most likely a HT740. I know on both the HT740 and V730, I use the same spin on filter which is a hydraulic filter. Good Luck, TomC

I got the chance to get under the bus tonight.  It's definitely a HT740 but it's got a filter setup that I've never seen before..... and evidently the two Allison dealers it's been to haven't seen before either.

I didn't take a picture of the filter itself, but it's a replaceable metal screen filter that looks much like a fuel sock filter, but made out of a fine metal mesh.  The tranny was rebuilt by WW Williams.  SN 2775502106, PN 029508866, it has 6ALR on the tag as well.  I called the local Allison dealer and he eventually found service bulletin SIL 12-TR-93 Rev C dated March 2016 and believes the right filter number is 29510918 which supersedes pn 23040988.  No dealer has it in stock, Allison direct only, 5-7 days, $160.  The filter canister says replace every 6 months or test with "electric method".  There is only one filter on this thing, too.

I'll call Williams tom'w and see if they have info on it.
