Front Axle Needed

I need to replace the front axle on my bus. Problem is that it was built in England and there doesn't appear to be any way to cross=reference part numbers. Here's what I need:

I'd like to buy the axle beam only. If available this way, it should be compatible with Meritor king pins and spindles with "Q-Plus" brakes. If the only thing that's available is the axle beam as an assembly with king pins and spindles, they should accept Meritor "Q-Plus" brakes or disc brakes.

Anybody know a component supplier who could match this axle by the dimensions?

If it is a matter only of the kingpin hole being worn out of round, it might be a candidate to be bored out and re-bushed to the correct specs.

Much better than that ... the shop doing work on it took it off and lost it.

To my knowledge the component builders don't make much of the dimensional specs available. You can find some assorted stuff with dimensions on the web but not the entire spectrum of existing units. Your SMC is pretty wide too. Ive been wanting to lose everything in the front on our 47 Flx and replace with modern but there is no support from the builders esp on front systems.

The old bus scene is pretty big in the UK - lots of preservation groups and specialist companies etc, and several magazines. So there's probably a good chance that you could source an original axle for your bus if you wanted - I realise shipping would be a killer, but presumably it's not you who'd be paying for it?

Yeah, I contacted PSV in Barnsley. They had a number of the exact model as my bus -- long-wheelbase Fleetlines, "Manchester Jumbo" with Northern Counties bodies -- and I got a number of spares from them in the past but they sold off (I'm guessing scrapped) all their stock a while ago. I've got a bite from a manufacturer who says he thinks he has a fire appliance axle that may fit. We'll see.

Seems like the garage that took it off and "lost" it should be doing the scratching around to find a replacement. Did they put it in a scrap pile that got collected?

Maybe some individual sold it for scrap. Check the local scrap yards, it might be sitting in a pile somewhere.

when i had my motorcycle shop. all of my mechanics were contractors..
If a customer came in they would want me to recommend a mechanic for there particular needs..
Some times I would...
And sometimes I tell the customer to get to know the person working on their toy...
