The paper they sell at the RV stores breaks down easy, but it is not very handy to use, not up to Wards or Sears levels. I have a septic system at home, and I have found that there are striking differences in the buildup depending on the brand and style. We have had good luck with Northern two-ply, but not three-ply, and other brands that have softeners or lotions added do not break down well enough. The marine-style toilets do not not pass very much water, so shorter lines or direct dump help (but then the odor problem).

Try some in a pan of water to see how they break up. Walmart sells RV paper, although never tried it. We use corn cobs but have to use a macerator to expell them from the tank.

Basic Scott toilet tissue works good, stay away from the heavy duty kind such as quilted extra soft such as Downey. The heavy duties don't due very well in a macerator, they can just clog the macerator blades and no one really wants to take one apart for cleaning and removing jammed tissue. Not a pleasant task.

You can also consider the Mexico (and other countries) method and simply toss the TP in the wastebasket and then toss it out with the trash.  I have done this many times in Mexico and Brazil.  Every home has a wastebasket in the bathroom for this purpose.  Then it doesn't matter if you use RV TP, Household TP, Sears, Wards, Newspaper, Corn Cobs, previously read Bus Conversion Magazines etc.

Then nothing will clog up your plumbing and you can go boondocking for even longer and you will also have some excellent fire starting material for when you start your campfire each night. If you find you are running out of paper before the end of the month, simply call us and we will sign you up to receive an additional magazine each month. :D

There you go (no pun intended).   ;D

You need septic toilet paper.  We used to use Costco tissue but it is no longer for septic systems.  So we buy Sam's Club septic bath tissue-- it breaks down quickly and works well.

If the paper is put in a separate waste can, you won't generally need as much water to clear the bowl.

The more flushes I get before I have to dump, the better life is. . . .  8)

No paper in the tank also means no buildup . . . .

I wonder what the local fly's will think of a separate waste can for used toilet paper.

I never have had any issues with flies in the bathroom.
I donno what you're thinking, but everyone I know uses a waste can with a floor pedal activated lid.

cheap, Scott single ply disintegrates immediately.  We have had the experience of the more durable stuff actually completely plugging the dump valve.  Can you imagine the fun of removing the dump hose to poke the plug out with a stick?
You don't have to believe everything you think.

Scott Bennet reccomended taking a few pieces of toilet paper, putting it in a water bottle and shaking it a little.  If it disintegrates your fine.

We use generic walmart or scott paper.  Never had issues.
