Wow Clifford! That is pretty expensive for a complicated system like that. Course, I'm hopelessly a KISS person. Good Luck, TomC

Not at this time, but some interesting reads with the links I just glanced at.
I did pickup on the yearly afterward chat diagnostics subscription. Though I kinda like the diagnosing here at the forum. Thanks for the links

Clifford, why don't you get rid of that dinosaour and convert to the dual Bosch alts?  The complete kits are available from MCI or Prevost.

You could just use the solid state Delco VR. I did, Charging system is better now.
I'll find the part number tomorrow when I get to the shop.

Kevin, I have the Delco 10503805 regulator now is that what you are talking about ?

Yup

I switched out the mechanical one for the 12V version. Pretty happy with it. Connecting the sense wire corrected and steadied the charging voltage.

Clifford  yours is running 24v Delco now, with that number right.

yep, belt driven oil cooled on series 60 engine.I leaning towards the dual alternators setup for a better balance system or going with AGM for the starting also.I have a couple of the 24v hi tech alternators off the Humvees if I can find the right pulleys I may try.I just thought the 500 buck Ample may solve a lot of problems the easy way

Kevin, Where did you connect the sense wire ? I am going to connect at the batteries. Is there a place at a large bank of batteries that is better to connect the sense wire or as long as it is at the batteries somewhere ?

Wayne

luvrbus

That is a good question Wayne I asked the people at Blanchard and Kirks and got 2 different answers.I believe Boomer has the right idea with the 2 alternators for mine with the 24v system

Wayne, The SS Delco VR has a terminal for sense. It can be used to ensure that the regulator "sees" the same voltage as the batteries. Any appreciable voltage drop can lead to battery overcharging or too much VR "hunting".
I ran a 10ga wire from the batteries directly to the VR.
That stopped most of my voltmeter dancing.

? where does it need to connect Kevin on the house batteries or starting batteries mine is connected to starting batteries.I think that is my problem the house batteries were not wired up to charge off the engine when I wired it to charge the house batteries off the 50D with a oneway feed with a 300 amp isolator then my problems started. Like the house batteries would over charge when the starting batteries needed the charge. My starting batteries are wet 2-8D's and the house bank are AGM both 24v systems if that helps
