MC9 kick down cable "sticky"

Good afternoon,

On our 83 mc9, the transmission kick down cable (if that is what it's really called) appears to be sticky.  With the cable attached, the pedal doesn't snap back when the accelerator pedal is released.  But we can downshift when necessary.  Without the cable attached, the accelerator snaps back into position. But of course downshifting doesn't happen.  We've tried lubing the cable a few times.

Has anyone else dealt wth this?

Thanks!  Kind regards, Phil

Could be the modulator on the transmission has gummed up most have 5 small bolts to remove the cover to clean the inside could also be you have a modulator going bad, that cable controls the modulator

Further clarifications! It's a Morse cable, and when we lube the cable it snaps back pretty good for a few minutes, but then it slowly gets gummed again.

Thanks again!  Kind regards, Phil

Trace the cable from the throttle it will go to the modulator on the drivers side of the transmission, only 1 bolt and clip holds the modulator to the transmission easy to remove and clean just don't lose the modulator pin and plug the hole or it will leak transmission fluid till it gets below the modulator.

LOL if you could talk Gary into making this board more photo friendly I could post you a photo of the modulator and cable

Much appreciated   ;D  - will give that one a look.  Maybe if I can snap a picture I will put it here to make sure I have the right thing?

Hopefully when we upgrade the forum software, the post picture process gets simpler.  No guarantees tho'!!  Sorry about that frustration.

Luvrbus,

Funny you should mention making the Forum more user Friendly.  This is the next task on our Webmasters ToDo list.  He just upgraded the Subscription Manager so now you can choose "Forget Password" to reset your own password and also check to see when your magazine subscription is set to expire and renew your subscription right on the spot.

His next major project is the upgrading the Forum Manager, so start taking those photos and hopefully within a month or so, you may be able to upload photos.
