A recent trip that took us 2400 miles, I used 1.5 gallons of oil. Some of that is from a very slow leak.  What do others burn in that many miles?  I realize zero is the goal.  Thanks

That's about normal for me, I think mine is more leaks than burn but my engine isn't really broken in yet.

Normal. You will never achieve 0 oil consumption in a DD 2 stroke, even if you had no leaks.

The only charts I have are based on hrs not miles to give you a example the book says 3 qts for 10 hrs of operation at 1800 rpm.

The new liners, pistons and rings they make for the DD have cut the oil usage way down nothing to see one only use a quart in 3000 miles now with no leaks.

Not to start a war with the Delo 100 users but they will use less oil using the Mobil Delvac 1240 and the DD's love clean oil so keep it clean

Do you by chance have a part number for the gallon jug of Delvac 1240?  I've been trying to find something other than the UPC code that would help when ordering.

Good to know on the Mobil Delvac 1240.  Finding it at a reasonable price will be the next issue I bet.

When I first bought my truck in 1980, the 8V-92TA burned a gallon every 1400miles. Then at 500,000mi had it in framed and put in newer style pistons and rings. The oil consumption jumped to 2400miles (no leaks). Good Luck, TomC

My 1991 8v92ta has about 80,000 miles on it. Bought it several years ago at 52,000 miles. Used about a gallon between 10,000 mile oil changes. No leaks. Still Silver.

We just returned from a 3,000 mile trip to the east coast. Our 871 used about 2.5 gallons. We run it right at 2,000 rpm most of the time. It leaks some and smokes some.

My 8v71 uses a gallon in about 350 miles. It leaks as much as it burns hehe. It likes to leave its mark, both in the air and on the ground lol.

Hi All, I  can verify  Cliffords statement  about the difference  in DD oil burn between DELVAC & DELO in both 8V71 & 8V92, lvmci...

When I rebuilt the 12V-71 back to new, new crank, oil pump, oil cooler, both blowers, fuel pump, latest Pistons, rods, all 48 valves, cast valve covers,  jakes, used the new great seals & gaskets.  That thing never leaked or used oil, 3,000 trip, did not change oil level on dip stick. It rusted, who ever heard of a rusty DD ? Drew a crowd when stop for fuel.
