Water pump cover important?

Sorry gents for my constant posting, but I'm trying to sort out as many questions as I can before we drive our new coach 2000 miles home. How important is our missing water pump cover? This section that is exposed is plastic which surprised me.

I don't think there is a cover for that water pump.Every one ive seen, to include mine,looks just like that.You can remove that ring and rebuild the pump(when needed)without removing the hoses and the housing.....George.

George, the 6v92 in our MCI 9 does have a cover bolted on and all the photos I googled show a cover...I'm hoping you're right, but I want to be sure. Is it drama pressing in a new water pump? I've heard it's just easier to replace the whole pump rather than trying to press in new guts with the assembly still mounted in the coach. Do you have a picture of yours? I'd be curious to see it. Lol. You always crack me up. Thanks :) ok. So no worries there then. Do you know why style this is then? If I ever need to replace?
