4104 blinkers and brake lights

Bus Professors, came across another problem I know you guys would know about. I noticed my blinkers left or right are very intermittant when I move the lever , they will come on if I play with the lever or move it around, I opened the casing and there are alot on contacts in there, I tried cleaning them with contact cleaner , but still very unreliable so I'm thing they are worn.The 4 way hazzard switch works OK on the dash and the bulbs do light. Is this something I can purchase from a web site for trucks, buses or is it unique to the 4104. I also noticed my brake light don't work, are they tied into this assembly.

      Hey, Nelson.   I don't know about the turn signals but the brake lights are separate (on all the buses I know about).  There is a brake light switch operated by air pressure.   Use your workshop manual to find where it is on your bus (or if there are more than one) and test it.  You'll need to find the "hot" wire and find out if there's power to it, then air up and see if pressing the brake pedal gives you power to the other connection.  If not, it's likely a stuck switch.

      Careful, sometimes there are mulitple switches on a vehicle.  The low-pressure warning switch looks similar but it's "normally closed until it sees pressure" while the brake switch is opposite.  Sometimes there are more than one brake switch (there may be one for the foot brake and one for the parking/emergency brake, etc.).  And some buses have similar switches for other purposes.
      I don't know your bus in detail, but your first thing is to find your brake pressure switch and test it.

I used a signal switch out of a big truck , the kind that clamps on with a hose clamp. I just wired it in using the wires from the old switch. It has the hazard switch built right in. Hope this helps. Raymond

The prior owner of my bus had wired in a 2 way toggle switch for the blinkers. I put in an aftermarket one that attached with a hose clamp. Works great. Online for about $30. Only thing that would make it better it's if it cancelled by itself.

I to bought directional switch for mine. Mine fell apart all contacts worn out .. Bought at Napa . It was cheaper on line but I needed it right then .. Came with hazard built in . Works great!
