Trans Fluid Check

Simple question, but I have to ask to be sure....

I have the Alison 740.  The dipstick has a line for HOT and COLD.  Do I check running in neutral or after I've driven, do I check with it off?

It's been sitting overnight now, so I will check cold, but do I start it first or just pull the dipstick?

Check it running and hot in neutral there is a plug to remove to check the stick if you have doubts about it I use the plug when cold

Also make sure the stick is all of the ways in. I have to give mine a 1/4 twist to lock it in place and fully seat, to get an accurate reading.

Why would I check the stick?  Don't understand.  I just pull the dipstick.

I always check the stick these old buses one never knows if they are accurate or not it could have been replaced or broken off over time 

If you are sure it's the original stick don't bother with checking it, when the 740 hold 10 gals depending on the pan and it takes only 7 gals to fill it according to stick something is wrong

uhmmm ..... because if it is way over full it can blow seals out....
