I recently was doing a few improvements to our straight MCI-5 and took the opportunity to replace the power steering pump while I was at that point in the work. My question is this, prior to the pump change all the oil I added to the PS unit to maintain the level was Mercon ATF. Is that the correct fluid for the PS unit on an 8V71. Is there a fluid that may be more agreeable to the older lines and parts?
We bought this MCI 5 in 1994, have enjoyed over 100,000 miles in the last 15 years. Lookin' forward to many more miles and smiles with a great machine.

I use the same transmission fluid in the PS as in the Allison HT740. Now it is Walmart's Super Tech transmission fluid rated C4 Not sure if the bus being straight makes much of a difference in what kind of fluid to use... LOL.

The manual says to use SAE 10 motor oil, for what that's worth.
