Seeking A Engine and Transmission

Posting for a friend we need a series 50 with a Allison or ZF V drive from a RTS or others to repower a 4104 any body have one or know where to buy one at a fair price prefer the Allison

That'll be an interesting repower. It was done on a 3751, so should be able to be done on a 4104. But talk about a power increase-going from 238hp and 600lb/ft torque to 320hp and 1150lb/ft torque. Will make a real hot rod and get at least 10mpg, if not closer to 12mpg. Good Luck, TomC

That setup does stir my thoughts, oh yes, have always loved the 4104 idea, looked at several, then wound up with MC7 mainly due to the straight in T drive, allowing a wide open engine / transmission possibilities.  Felt at the time, 25+ yrs ago the V drive had too many limiting design hurdles.
Being 72, it will not happen but sure would like to see a young whipper snapper pull it off.

Question. Are either of those V-drive transmissions more than 3 speeds?

The ZF is a 5 speed with a final of 0.88:1 and the 731 can have a overdrive with a final of 0.83:1 we want the overdrive not much difference in the final between the 2 lol I probably have the ratios turn around on the 2

Allison made a V731R which allows a right hand engine to be used.

Lot of V drives were right handed engines in the RTS and Grumman/Flxiable  fwiw the ZF for a V drive is right handed engine only,this looks to be a fairly easy repower the turbo may be a challenge and the wiring if we don't find the harness

Can the ZF be made to work with say a DDEC 8v92?

I'm assuming it's electronically controlled.

What are the 1st and reverse ratios?

Dan -

The V-drive gearset bolted on the rear of the ZF is where the rotation is changed.
